Zhar was a Sangheili who held the rank of Zealot. He was a member of Thel 'Vadamee's group who attacked UNSC ships at Charybdis IX during the Battle of Charybdis IX. The group was later ordered personally by the High Prophet of Regret to find Kig-yar rebels trading Covenant weapons with Humans.[1] He was later killed by Thel 'Vadamee after threatening to harm the Prophet of Truth. [2]

Near the end of his life, Zhar began to question the Prophet's orders to completely eradicate the human race, and he wondered why they couldn't take the Covenant, particularly remarking that "...they show some capacity for honor," and that there is "...something profoundly noble in them...",[3] regarding an injured Faison willing to defend the humans on board the Infinite Spoils. He begins to dwell on the Prophets contradicting orders which gnaws at him until it climaxes as an attempt to take the life of the Prophet of Truth. However, in contrast to this, Thel, on multiple occasions claimed in his thoughts that he found Zhar's insatiable thirst for pleasing the Heirarchs a very significant nuisance in Thel's mind. When Zhar finally moves to kill the Prophet, Thel lunges, without second thought to his friend, killing him to save a heirarch, and unknowingly, himself.

Trivia

  • Zhar shares his name with the Kig-yar Zhar and both hold the Zealot rank, interestingly enough.
  • Zhar tries to kill Truth with an energy sword, but is stopped by Thel. This is ironic as Thel kills Truth with an energy sword in 2552.
  • Zhar's death by Thel actually saved the latter's life from being executed.
