Lord Zalbaag Beoulve, also known as Zalbag Beoulve, is an Ark Knight and the leader of the Order of the Northern Sky from Final Fantasy Tactics. A stern believer in the Church's teachings, Zalbaag is a fearsome warrior with little equal. Unlike their elder brother Dycedarg Beoulve, Zalbaag is a good brother to Ramza, but Zalbaag does not believe him at first because of his betrayal after Tietra's death.

The Knight Devout

It was partly in thanks to Zalbaag's fighting that Ivalice was successful during the Fifty Years' War. King Denamda IV declared him the saviour of Ivalice, and he was granted the title of Knight Devout. At the death bed of his father, Barbaneth Beoulve, Zalbaag is appointed the new lord commander of the Order of the Northern Sky, whilst his older brother, Dycedarg, was appointed strategist for Duke Larg.

Zalbaag went on many missions, usually on his older brother's behalf. However, Zalbaag was also in charge of the Order unit that stormed Ziekden Fortress, and he ordered the death of Tietra Heiral. All these actions he performed with no real remorse or sympathy.

Zalbaag's Suspicions

When Ramza returns to the Royal City of Lesalia, after a year on his own, Zalbaag initially shoots down all of his half-brother's suggestions about Dycedarg's trickery and deception. However, he begins to believe his half-brother when Dycedarg kills Duke Larg, and the dying noble accuses Dycedarg of killing his own father as well. Overhearing a conference between Dycedarg and the Knight Templar Loffrey Wodring, Zalbaag hears mention of Dycedarg using Mosfungus poison on Barbaneth. He takes a chemist to his father's grave to confirm this, and upon learning that Mosfungus was indeed the cause of death, he rushes back to Eagrose Castle, and confronts Dycedarg just as Ramza arrives.

Dycedarg calls his guards, but Zalbaag manages to fight back and defeat Dycedarg. Zalbaag's victory is short-lived; as the elder Beoulve falls to the ground, he unintentionally triggers the Capricorn Zodiac Stone and merges with Adrammelech. Adrammelech kills Zalbaag with a single attack, though Ramza is able to defeat him. After the battle, Ramza comments that a name is meaningless, and that your choices in life are of the utmost importance. Realizing the Beoulve line is scattered, he resolves to save Alma.

Zombie Fight

Later, Zalbaag is called back from the dead by Folmarv Tengille, apparently as a vampire. Folmarv forces him to fight against Ramza. Zalbaag, realizing he cannot stop himself, calls for Ramza to kill him. Ramza reluctantly complies, banishing his brother's undead form from Ivalice. Zalbaag's last words are in apology to his brother for causing him grief. Ramza bellows out his brother's name, crushed by the loss.
