Wud Mortull was the failed Padawan of Jedi Master Pernicar. He fought in the New Sith Wars under Master Pernicar, but went missing some time during the fighting. While still a Jedi, he was known to carry and fight with a green bladed lightsaber.
Eight years after he went missing, he returned to battle after having apparently defected to the ranks of the Sith. In the heat of battle Wud caught sight of his old Jedi Master. Pernicar, who had just slain three soldiers of the Brotherhood of Darkness, heard the familiar call of his former apprentice. When he turned to face him he saw Mortull charging at him with open arms, a broad smile, and clad all in Sith armor. The Jedi Master didn't recognize Wud at first because he'd aged since their last meeting. Nevertheless he was pleased to see his apprentice, who also seemed happy at the reunion as he approached with laughter, seemingly rushing to embrace Pernicar. Then, without warning, a lightsaber appeared in Wud Mortull's right hand. The red blade ignited, and it seemed that the Sith defector was intent on slaying his former Master. It would not be so, however, as Pernicar cut the young man down without hesitation.
Later on Pernicar reflected sorrowfully at how Wud Mortull was still smiling when the Jedi Master collected the weapon from former pupil's corpse.
The story of Wud Mortull is recounted by Master Pernicar as he talks about the differences in Jedi and Sith lightsabers. The story appears in Jedi vs. Sith: The Essential Guide to the Force.
