Worrt
Designation

Nonsentient

Planet of origin

Tatooine[1]

Height of average adult

0.5 to 1.5 meters[1]

The worrt was an amphibious creature native to Tatooine and found on Nal Hutta. It was omnivorous, but was also known to attempt to eat rocks and metal objects, which led to the demise of many worrts. It used its long tongue to catch smaller prey, but would often try to attack creatures bigger than itself.

Worrts could, with great difficulty, be trained as housepets. Jabba Desilijic Tiure kept a number of worrts as pest control, exploiting the creature's lightning-quick tongue. The worrt counted the native ibian among its prey. Worrt venom tasted like tricopper and was strong enough to kill a bantha.

It was said that there were giant worrts - much larger than 1.5 meters in height - roaming the tops of the barren mountains of Tatooine.

A close relative of the worrt was the aggressive sevorrt.

Behind the scenes

Some sources indicate Jabba introduced worrts to Tatooine from Nal Hutta. A picture from Hutt and Seek shows a worrt in the swamps of Nal Hutta.

In the Video Game Super Star Wars worrts are coloured green and leave sticky orange goo on the ground when killed.

a Minor Worrt

Inhabits: Tatooine, location
Worrts are creatures found on Tatooine. Worrts are said to be mindlessly stupid, which is true. Most Worrts are passive and slow moving, but the larger ones are more agressive. Worrts range in levels from 1-90.

Worrts are mainly found near towns... the weak ones atleast.

Star Wars Lore

Native to Tatooine, worrts are blindingly stupid and will attack anything that appears remotely edible -- metal, poisonous plants, and large rocks have been found in the guts of dead worrts. Though they have been known to pester human-sized targets, they generally avoid prey larger than themselves. Worrts can be domesticated as pest-catchers, but their stupidity makes them difficult to train. Jabba the Hutt was believed to have maintained several worrts as pets, which explains the unusual concentration of the creatures near his palace.
