World War I was a major conflict fought over four years mainly in continental Europe from 1914 to 1918. It was started due to the Nemesis statue passing by Earth in 1913. (DW: Silver Nemesis) Some of the battlegrounds were Passchendaele, the Somme and Gallipoli. (DW: The Sea Devils, TW: To the Last Man) A million British soldiers died during the war. (TW: To the Last Man) The time-traveling Family of Blood, while in 1913, had warned some people there would be a war the next year. (DW: The Family of Blood)
In 1915, the RMS Lusitania was sunk, precipitating the United States getting involved. (BFA: The Sirens of Time)
The immortal Jack Harkness fought in the war (DW: Utopia), as did Tim Latimer. (DW: The Family of Blood) Tommy Brockless also served, and was eventually executed in 1918, when, suffering from shell shock, he refused to return to the front lines. The Doctor visited the war several times. The Doctor along with Susan, survived a Zeppelin air raid. (DW: Planet of Giants) In 1914, the Doctor, Tobias Philby and Thomas ended up in a no man's land in France, where they learned of a German artillery build-up and warned the British Army of it. (TVC: The Amateur) The Doctor also claimed to have been wounded at Gallipoli. (DW: The Sea Devils) The Doctor offered one private the opportunity to travel with him, but he declined. World War I was a global conflict on planet Earth in the early 20th century, begun when Austria-Hungary attacked Serbia in response to an assassination. The conflict quickly spiralled out to encompass Europe with the Entente Powers and their allies, including France, Russia, the United Kingdom, Italy and the United States of America declaring war on the Central Powers including Germany, Austria-Hungary and the Ottoman Empire.
The conflict began in 1914 and finally ended in 1918 with the defeat of Germany and her allies. Following the end of the war, the Germans were shamed by their defeat, and this was one of the contributing factors for a second global conflict in 1939. (TOS - My Brother's Keeper novel: Republic)
In 2155, Captain Erika Hernandez compared the network of mutual defense agreements between Draylax, Alpha Centauri, United Earth and the Coalition of Planets, to the situation that had led to World War I. (ENT novel: Kobayashi Maru)

In the 23rd century the being Trelane became fascinated with World War I, and attacked the USS Enterprise in a space vessel which resembled a biplane from that time period. After this inital encounter, Trelane subjected the Enterprise crew to a simulation of a German World War I era town. (TOS video game: Judgment Rites)

World War I, also known as the Great War and "The War To End All Wars," was a global military conflict which took place primarily in Europe between 1914 and 1918. More than nine million soldiers and civilians died. The conflict had a decisive impact on the history of the 20th century.
A young Adolph Hitler, still a corporal in the German Army, along with Stalin and a young Asian man, visited Anton Arcane during his early experiments in re-animating the dead.[1]
A young marksman named Steve Savage enlisted in the United States Air Corps. On his first mission, he broke formation against orders and succeeded in downing several German attack balloons. Although threatened with a court martial for disobeying orders, Savage developed a reputation as a fighting ace and earned himself the nickname, the Balloon Buster. [2]
The United States entered the war. In August of that same year, the demon Etrigan played a gruesome part in the third Battle of Ypres. At this time, the Demon manipulated Jason Blood's memories of the incident, as well as that of many other horrible deeds that the Demon has committed across the centuries. [3]
At some point near the end of the war, the time traveler Booster Gold arrived in this era from the future whereupon he landed behind enemy lines. He saved the life of an American soldier named Cyrus Lord from an attack by the Enemy Ace. After doing so, Booster realized that he just saved the ancestor of Maxwell Lord, the man responsible for murdering his best friend, Ted Kord in the future. Note: The exact year that this event takes place in is unknown. Enemy Ace's dialogue during this event indicates that he has been fighting for quite a number of years, suggesting that his meeting with Booster Gold takes place late in the war. [4]
