The Wizard's Tower (view from Fishermen's Haven)

The Wizard's Tower is a big, fortress-like building consisting of a center tower and 4 side-towers. It sits on a mysterious rock floating in mid-air at the south-western edge of Kessex Peak.

You can see the tower up close from Kessex Peak, and you can also see it clearly from the opposite side of the bay, from the Stingray Strand, and Sanctum Cay.

It is currently unknown who's the wizard which the tower belongs to and what powers are hidden in the tower, but a villain named Galrath seeks access to the tower. In the quest The Villainy of Galrath you have to stop Galrath from gaining access to the tower. In addition, the Cult of Verata has based its operations by the tower, perhaps also to gain access to what is inside.

From the RuneScape Wiki, the wiki for all things RuneScape

RuneScape uses the British convention for floor numbering: Ground floor, first floor (immediately above the ground floor), second floor, etc.

The Wizards' Tower is located south of Draynor Village, over a bridge. It plays a part in many quests. Fairy ring code DIS brings you immediately south of the tower. It can also be accessed by entering the east portal on the third floor of the Wizards' Guild.

The Wizard's Tower was originally created early in the First Age by the druid Jack to research and develop the new arts of Magic and Runecrafting. The wizards within the Tower also created the Mage Training Arena for mages to train the more mundane spells. During a meeting of Wizards at the Tower, the Zamorakian mages, believing their Saradominist counterparts would selfishly hoard the magical knowledge, set the Tower alight. Most of the mages within the Tower were killed, while most magical knowledge and the art of Runecrafting were lost to the flames. Though the Tower has been rebuilt, it is still in the process of rediscovering the lost knowledge.

Inside the tower

Inside the tower is a multiple number of floors, and a few notable non-player characters. The whole tower, except for the basement, is a multi-combat zone. The tower is also notable in that is one of the few locations that acts as a point to multiple other dimensions. Isidor in the basement can teleport players to the plane of the Land of Snow, there exists a permanent portal to the pocket universe of the Runecrafting Guild, and Sedridor has knowledge of a once-lost spell capable of bringing himself and others to the magically locked Rune essence mine in the ice fields of the north.

The basement of the Wizards' Tower.

The basement is one of two entrances to the Rune Essence available to free-players, and one of four for members. The basement used to play a role in The Restless Ghost quest. It can be accessed via a ladder on the ground floor of the Wizard's Tower.

The basement is where players can find Head Wizard Sedridor. He plays a major role in the Rune Mysteries quest. He can also teleport players to the Rune Essence mine after completing this quest.

The basement also has Isidor, brother to Sedridor and a wizard interested in portals, in it, who can teleport players to the Snow imp's homeland, during the Myths of the White lands quest, the wintry realm of the Land of Snow. You must remind him of the teleport phrase "Ectosum glissendo" for him to teleport you.

Ground floor

On the ground floor there are two rooms with four Wizards. They are level 9 and quite popular for free-to-play players as not many monsters drop runes and these are the only ones that drop wizard robes (one of the only free-to-play magic armours). There is also a leather boot spawn on the table in the library. At the staircases there are three log spawns. There are also bookcases in the library, and players may find the following books while searching them:

  • The Life & Times of a Thingummywut by Traiborn the Wizard
  • Wind Strike for Beginners
  • Life With a Wizard Husband ~ a Housewife's Story
  • The Dark Arts of Magical Wands
  • So You Think You're a Mage? Volume 28
  • Fire, Earth and Water ~ What's it all About?
  • How to become the Ultimate Wizard of the Universe
  • 101 Ways to Impress Your Mates with Magic

Also, you can experience a graphical glitch on this floor. It is easy to perform and requires two people. One person stands in the diagonal doorway, which leads to the room with the staircase and ladder to the basement, and the other closes the door while the first guy is standing in the doorway. This will make it look like the person is trapped in the door, half of the player is on one side of the door and the other half is on the other side.

First floor

The entrance to the Runecrafting Guild.

Here resides the loony Traiborn, and a wizard who can make splitbark armour in members servers, with the proper supplies. There are one or two level 9 wizards, and also a couple of useless rooms. Traiborn helps you out when making the Cake of Guidance for the Lumbridge Guide in the quest, Recipe for Disaster. Also on the first floor is a portal which grants access to the Runecrafting Guild for players level 50 runecrafting or above only.

Second/top floor

The second floor of the Wizards' Tower.

On a higher floor in the tower, there is a lesser demon in a cage. Because it is caged, it cannot attack any players or do damage to them, but players can still attack it, using ranged, magic, or a halberd. If you wish to receive drops from the lesser demon, you must use telekinetic grab (33 Magic required) to receive the drop in your inventory. Also there is Wizard Grayzag, who used to be an attackable level 43 NPC, who summoned imps to fight against players who attacked him. He is part of the Imp Catcher quest.

Notable non-player characters

  • The Wise Old Man plans to either burn down or rob the Wizards' Tower for runes. See Draynor Bank Robbery.
  • When the Lumbridge and Draynor Diary was introduced, one of the tasks was accidentally mislabeled, "Taunt the greater demon at the top of the Wizards' Tower." Though it was still a lesser demon, players could receive credit for the task. This mistake has since been corrected.
  • Before the Achievement Diary update, the lesser demon at the top of the tower could not be taunted.
  • You can see a part of Tutorial Island from the island that the Wizards' Tower is located on by standing on the southern-most part of the island.
  • According to the map of DeviousMUD, the forerunner to RuneScape, the Wizards' Tower was originally to be called "Warlocks Tower".
  • According to Saradomin in the 20th issue of the God Letters the caged lesser demon is called "Lemmy".

The Wizard's Tower.
"The Chancellor's signal is coming from right there. The observation platform at the top of that spire."
Obi-Wan Kenobi

The Wizard's Tower was the name given to the conning tower and accompanying sensor and communications pod of the Invisible Hand. The pod also contained the room known as the General's Quarters, which was outfitted by Count Dooku shortly before the Battle of Coruscant.

The Wizard's Tower was refitted as a sanctum for the Count of Serenno during the latter stages of the Clone Wars, and it was from here that Dooku continued to broadcast Separatist propaganda over Shadowfeed and HoloNet channels to further subvert the Republic war effort. The tower was protected by point-defense laser cannons located midway down the shaft, which also contained turbolifts providing access to the observation deck. An interstellar communications array was located atop the pod.

Dooku held Supreme Chancellor Palpatine captive on the observation deck of the Wizard's Tower during General Grievous's strike at Coruscant in 19 BBY. It also hosted a duel between Dooku and Jedi General Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker, which resulted in Dooku's execution at Skywalker's hand. The Count's body remained there when the Invisible Hand, damaged during the battle, split in two. The aft section was thought to have burned up in Coruscant's atmosphere, taking the Wizard's Tower with it.

Behind the scenes

The name and its connection to Dooku are a reference to Christopher Lee's role as Saruman in Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings Film Trilogy, in which the wizard Saruman dwelled in a tower called Orthanc, which also became known as the "Wizard' Tower".
