From TARDIS Index File, the free Doctor Who reference.

A Witch was a (usually female) practioner of magical arts, though not all magicians would have consider themselves witches. Some cultures used the term "wizard" to refer to a male witch (DW: The Dæmons) others used witch to refer to practioners of both sexes. Less advanced cultures had a certain fear of paranoia and would sometimes mistake psychic powers or advanced technology as witchcraft.

History

Significance in Human history

Alien entities, the Fendahl (DW: Image of the Fendahl) and the Dæmons (DW: The Dæmons) undoubtably affected Humanity, specifically Human notions of witchcraft.

During the 17th century in Europe and in Salem Village fear of witchcraft rationalized the trial and the state-approved murder of many innocents. (DW: Image of the Fendahl, PDA: The Witch Hunters) Several Witchcraft Acts were passed by the government prohibiting its practice. The last Witchcraft Act, which was enacted in 1736, was not repealed until 1951. (DW: The Dæmons)

As late as the 20th century, in England, witches both "white" (benevolent) like Olive Hawthorne (DW: The Dæmons) and evil, like the members of the Hecate Cult, still formed covens. (DW: Image of the Fendahl, KAC: A Girl's Best Friend)

In the early 21st century, neopaganism gained in popularity. These included violent young gangs. One, the Witch Kids, spread across the United States. They rejected technology and knowledge and gloried in violence and superstition spread across the United States. (NA: Cat's Cradle: Warhead) Another called themselves the Ravens. (DWM: Ravens)

Across space, the Travellers of the 26th century, who had originated on Earth, honoured ancient gods and conducted rituals. The Travelers used puterspace as a way to experience mystic realities without drugs. (NA: Love and War)

Humans

  • Martha Tyler knew the ancient traditions and posessed second sight because of the Fetch Priory's time fissure, therefore local reputation painted her as a witch. Locals deferred to her and called Granma, as an symbolic sign of respect. A genuine coven of malign witches, led by occultist Maximillian Stael, also lived in the area and plotted to resurrect the Fendahl. (DW: Image of the Fendahl)
Martha Tyler actually worked as an agent for Faction Paradox, sent to keep an eye on matters. (source?)

Other species

  • Though not precisely a witch, the Seeker appeared to serve a similar cultural function. (DW: The Ribos Operation)
The Seeker, too, worked as an agent for Faction Paradox.
The Sycorax, not understanding their own stolen technology, such as blood control, might have regarded it as a form of witchcraft, though they used it themselves.
These witches might be related to the Carrionites.

The Shuttlecraft Witch was a shuttle owned by Riku in 2375. He had allowed his eight year old daughter to name his three newest shuttles, this being one. This was a reference to The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. (DS9 novel: The Left Hand of Destiny)

About Witch

The witch is also known as the witch flounder and it lives in surface waters of the Gulf of Maine, George’s Bank, and the continental shelf of New England and in the middle Atlantic. Usually the habitats where the witch fish spawns its eggs have to follow some conditions, such as a sea surface temperature below 13 degrees Celsius and a high salinity in deep waters. The breeding period of the witch starts in March and it can last till the end of October. The eggs are laid on the bottom of their habitat and the hatchlings live at depths of about 50 to 450 meters. When the hatchlings grow big enough they can feed themselves with insect larvae or even other fish larvae. When the witch becomes an adult it starts using the surface waters as its habitat and they can’t usually be found less than 300 meters in depth. However, when they are ready to lay eggs again they can be found at the bottom again

Examine The hat's a dead giveaway./The Black Knights resident witch.
Notable features Helps in Animal Magnetism/Plays a part in Black Knights' Fortress.
A Witch is non-player character, usually a humanoid female who is capable of wielding magic and wearing evidently mystical outfits, mostly including a pointed hat. Though only two are named simply as Witch:
  • One dwells in Draynor Manor. (There previously existed an option to attack her, and no option to talk to her. She was combat level 25, had ten hitpoints and was seldom attacked by players as she was far from a bank. However, the attack option was removed with the quest Animal Magnetism and players are now able to talk to her.) This is possibly the witch the witch in the Black Knights' Fortress was referring to as her cousin (named Helda).

Other witches, going by their own names, are :

  • The Sorceress and Sorceress' Apprentice in Al Kharid. (Originally, a Witch (monster) was in the hut where the apprentice presently is. She was combat level 25, had ten hitpoints and was seldom attacked by players as she was far from a bank. After the Sorceress's Garden update in 2007, she was changed into the Sorceress' Apprentice, and a second floor was added).
This is the former appearance of the witch in Draynor Manor. Back then, she was level 25.

Trivia

  • During Animal Magnetism, it is revealed that the witch of Draynor Manor used to shove little kids into her oven (most likely a reference to the Grimm Brothers' fairy tale Hansel and Gretel). However, she has since been to "anger management classes." Player characters take offence to her somewhat patronizing tone, and she threatens to return to her old ways. This leaves an open door to the creation of a future quest.
  • She says "'ello my poppet",possibly a reference to Pirates of the Caribbean.

This creature is in the Humans class.
Witch

300 Hit points
120 Experience points per kill

Summon/Convince: --/-- (Illusionable)
Abilities: Melee (0-20), Fireball (30-75), shoots Fire Fields, Frog Mutation.
Pushable: ?
Push Objects: ?
Est. Max. Damage: 115 hp per turn
Immune To: Energy, Invisibility
Strong To: Earth (-20%)
Neutral To: Holy, Fire, Ice, Drown?, Life Drain?
Weak To: Physical (+10%), Death (+5%)
Sounds: "Herba buridia ex!"; "Horax Pokti!"; "Hihihi!".
Behavior: Witches always try to stay away from the attacker, so they can burn you with their powerful fire missiles at a distance. They can make you look like a Green Frog.
Field Notes: Witches are women with strong magical abilities. They are frequently found with Amazons and Valkyries, and have become very involved with cult activities on the Shattered Isles. Some people believe that witches are leaders of the amazons and valkyries. Witches provide poor loot.
Although Witches only use fire attacks, they are not immune to fire.
Location: Vandura, west of the Dwarf Mines in a small house (here), Amazonia north of Carlin, Triangle Tower, Edron Hero Cave in the Warlock room, Venore's Green Claw Swamp and Amazon Camp, Dark Cathedral (2 levels underground), Goroma Volcano (underground).
Strategy: Be careful because they can attack you even before you see them. If you are alone, do not attack more than one witch, since they can damage you fairly fast. Mages would best use either Wand of Inferno or Necrotic Rod, otherwise either use explosions or GFBs depending on how many there are. If you are planning to hunt them, you can summon a Fire Elemental as a mage. Knights: should just run up to them and kill them. Try to block her in a corner with other objects or monsters, so she can't run away, and shoot Fire Fields. A knight can kill a witch with skills 55/55 very easily, but just watch out for their fire fields, as they can become a pain if killing more than one witch at a time. Paladins: should stand still and kill them from a distance.
If you block them in a corner, they will usually stop spamming their fire attacks and use their weak melee instead.
Loot: 0-10 gp, 0-8 Cookies, Wolf Tooth Chain, Sickle, Leather Boots, Coat, Cape, Star Herb (semi-rare), Witch Broom (semi-rare) Garlic Necklace (rare), Silver Dagger (rare), Necrotic Rod (rare), Fern (very rare?), Witch Hat (very rare), Stuffed Toad (very rare). (Loot Statistics)

Witch-Type Monsters were created by Pipo Destruction. Witch Monsters are very similar to Spellcaster Monsters, but to summon 1 Spellcaster Monster of Level 5 or 6, you need tribute 1 Monster Card, but to summon 1 Witch of Monster Level 5 or 6, no tribute is needed. Here is an example of Witch Monster:
