The Watershed is a building in Necropolis inhabited by a group of super mutants. The building itself is notable for having a large water pump that provides water for the entire city, two prison cells, and a tunnel that leads to Vault 12.

The Watershed was once inhabited by ghouls though a group of super mutants led by Harry had taken over before the Vault Dweller had visited. As a result, maintenance of the water pump became impossible, leading to it breaking. Instead, the city was forced to use the Vault 12 water chip for sustenance. If the player character attempts to enter the Watershed, Harry will stop you. Due to his lack of intelligence, he can easily be tricked into letting you go forward, or else he will report you to Lou, his boss. Barry, Gary and Sally are the three super mutants along the hallway. Larry is the supposed guard outside and Terry protects the water rations.

Quests

The underground ghouls who reside in the Necropolis' tunnels will tell you the location of the water chip. When you inform them that you will take their only supply of water they request you to fix the water pump by finding the parts in the tunnels to the north.

Set, who runs the Zombie gang, is the leader of the ghouls, and demands that you destroy the super mutants at the Watershed. At a low level you will find this to be a difficult task. Harry wields a Laser Rifle, and Barry carries a Flamer. Once you've slain them all, you can return and Garret of the Zombies will give you a reward.

The other quest is to free the ghoul prisoner who is one of the cells beside the room with the entrance to the vault. The lock on the door can be picked with a low level. He will thank you and walk away, and if the super mutants are still alive, they won't seem to notice.

Appearances in games

The watershed appears only in the original Fallout.
