The Wasteland Junkie is a random encounter, and is a strung-out Chems Merchant who lives in the Capital Wasteland.

The Wasteland Junkie will camp out indefinitely next to a burning barrel at whatever location he appears at. He is armed with a weak firearm and random Wastelander clothes.

Although the Wasteland Junkie originally had a persistent inventory, this was changed in the 1.2 patch. The Wasteland Junkie's inventory (including his clothes and weapon) are now reset every few days, just like the game's wasteland Scavengers.

Little is known about the Wasteland Junkie, but he is not a "good" character as he can be killed without a loss of Karma. He makes a living selling Chems, but does not seem to do any traveling. When you encounter this poor soul, he is apparently down on his luck and has no caps. Because there is no karma change for killing him, he can't repair your equipment, his inventory (with the exception of his clothing) is weightless, and because if you leave him alive it's highly unlikely that you'll meet him again anyway, the best thing to do is to simply kill him and take everything he has. Except his clothing. Based on his dialogue (and name), he has probably long been addicted to his own wares.

  • "Hey...hey, man. You need something? A little fix, maybe? Some Jet? I got Jet. Psycho too. Take a look!"
  • "What do you need? I can get you a fix. Anything you want. Check it out! Check it out!"

  • The gender of the Wasteland Junkie is randomly generated.
  • The Wasteland Junkie can be mezzed.

Wasteland Junkie only appears in Fallout 3.
