The Voting hat was released with the Tools for Games update on 15 July 2009. It is sold by Faruq in Al-Kharid. Its purpose is to let players create games more easily. The hat is actually two different colours: red on one side and blue on the other side. If one wishes to change the hat's colour from red to blue, he should right-click the hat while it is in his inventory and select "Turn out Voting hat (red)" and it will change to blue, or vice versa. While in a clan, these hats can be used in conjunction with the Orb of Counting. The Orb of Counting counts the number of red and blue hats to help with a voting process. It also is untradeable and costs 50gp.These hats have recently become quite popular with players wearing Zamorak robes and/or Wizard robes, depending on which way the hat is turned.

The voting hat cannot be sold on the Grand Exchange.

If a voting hat is dropped, another player can pick it up after a short amount of time.

  • Malignius Mortifer looks like he is wearing a black voting hat (although it doesn't exist in the game).
  • The voting hat (red) has been used as a substitute to the much more expensive Santa hat by free players to match the Santa suit. Members have the use of Fez as a more convincing substitute.
