The community was essentially absorbed into McLean many years ago, although there is still a Langley High School. In addition to being a bedroom community for Washington, D.C., the area is the site of the headquarters of the Central Intelligence Agency, the headquarters of the Federal Highway Administration, and the Claude Moore Colonial Farm of the National Park Service. Langley is often used as a metonym for the CIA.

In the early 21st century, when the United States was divided into thirteen commonwealths, Washington, DC, the pre-War capital city of the U.S. became part of the Columbia Commonwealth, along with Virginia (which traditionally is a commonwealth itself) and Maryland.

Not to be mistaken for the Commonwealth that Dr. Zimmer hails from.

Behind the scenes

Bethesda Game Studios, the developer of Fallout 3, is headquartered in real-life Rockville, Maryland, although the name comes from Bethesda, Maryland, where the company was originally founded in 1985.

History

The Commonwealth of Virginia is a Southeastern state on the Atlantic Coast in the United States of America. It is the 35th-largest in the U.S. and 12th-most populous, with over 7.5 million residents. It is named after Queen Elizabeth I of England, who was known as the Virgin Queen because she never married. The Virginia Colony was the first part of the Americas to be continuously inhabited by colonists from its founding on April 10, 1606 under the Virginia Company of London, up to the American Revolution. The commonwealth was one of the thirteen colonies that revolted against British rule in the American Revolution to form the United States of America.
