Vehicles and Mechanical Vehicles, especially those running on petrol, are generally rare in the Fallout Universe. The most common means of transport are brahmin carts. The super mutant army is also said to have used some steam-powered trucks.
The Great War was fought mainly for resources. The last resources remaining were probably depleted in the war itself. Without resources, vehicles couldn't be driven anymore. Furthermore, it is generally accepted that after the war, much of the human knowledge was lost. The knowledge of how to tend to the high tech fusion cars that existed before the war was lost, and with it the necessary skills to repair the cars. This does not mean that there are no old vehicles that have been kept funtional OR that someone out in the wastes could not have invented/innovated their own vehicles, but such instances are extremely rare outside of technologically advanced groups
(id est: groups that have overcome the struggle for basic survival and can put resources towards
researching old/new technologies).

There were no drivable vehicles in Fallout but many vehicles can be seen as a Fuel Truck, many varieties of cars or a Nuka-Cola Truck.
Fallout 2 featured a fully working car, the Highwayman, and high tech flying machines, known as Vertibirds. It is also mentioned that the NCR military includes mechanized forces, though this could also refer to any soldiers equipped with Power Armor. Given the presence of car mechanics in NCR and a car chop-shop in New Reno, it is probable that some form of automobile was present in the NCR's mechanized units.
In Fallout 3, there are no drivable vehicles, although there are hundreds of highly explosive, derelict vehicles that will explode violently a short while after being damaged. When a vehicle explodes, the resulting explosion can cause other vehicles close to it to explode causing a deadly chain reaction. This particularly happens in drive-ins and on highways. There are also Enclave-controlled Vertibirds. They appear at Raven Rock and on random encounters occupied by squads of Enclave soldiers. In the Add on Broken Steel the player can visit the interior of the Brotherhood of Steel's unique vertibird, which they have captured.
It is also conceivable that once civilization has recovered enough in a given area that vehicles beyond brahmin carts will appear. These vehicles could be restored pre-war machines or they could be some form of steam-powered machines.
Strangely, most vehicles appear to be run on nuclear fusion as most of them have an exhaust at the back (specifically buses) that say "Warning: Radiation" on them. However, it is not known if vehicles are run on just nuclear fusion or on petroleum with nuclear fusion. On inspection of an apparent fueling station with a red rocket on the roof in Springvale (Close to Vault 101 and Megaton), on the ground there are manhole covers with a warning sign located beside them stating "Danger, Petroleum". However, they are probably fusion cars, since gas powered cars don't produce radiation and no other power sources are ever mentioned (fusion and gas), at least not in such numbers. It has also been mentioned that due to the small numbers of natural resources that remained before the Great War, there was an increase in pressure in the production of Fusion cars. Due to the small resources remaining, and their cost, only a small number of Fusion cars were produced, and with a high price tag. However, they apparently were sold straight away despite the price, as people may not have had any transport due to petroleum being too scarce to use in automobiles.
In Fallout 3 DLC, the Player is required to use a tram cart to enter and exit The Pitt, which is can be assumed is either automated or the tunnels leading to The Pitt contain only one set of tracks, as the reason given for using the tram is that the tunnels are too dark and numerous to ever navigate on foot.
The Player also can ride an underground sub way train in the Presidential Metro during the main questline of the Broken Steel add-on.
The PC is also able to take ride on the ruined pre war ferry, the Duchess Gambit, as a means of entering or exiting Point Lookout. The ferry is captained by Tobar originaly but changes hands as the main questline of the DLC progresses. The PC is required to sleep in a cabin on the main deck to start the journey to or from Point Lookout but is treated to a short cut scene where the view from the ferry as it docks is watched when entering Point Lookout for the first time.
Fallout Tactics featured many vehicles that the player could operate. The cars in the game do not appear to actually use gas as there are no emissions of any kind. Also, Fallout Tactics is set in what is the heart land of the automotive industry, giving some argument to the plausible presence of functioning vehicles. The vehicles are also used exclusively by the Brotherhood of Steel, who would have the technical know-how to get vehicles functioning.
However, since there are still untouched reserves of pre-war tech (like the Sierra Army Depot), it is reasonable to assume that vehicles will continue to have a presence in the Fallout universe. If the Den is capable of keeping a fusion car from rotting, imagine what a more advanced town might have squirreled away.
There were no drivable vehicles in Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel but many vehicles can be seen as a Transport Truck, an Ice Cream Truck or a Caravan.
Van Buren, the canceled Fallout 3 by Black Isle Studios, featured many drivable vehicles, including a train.

The vehicles from the Halo universe, available in campaign and multiplayer gameplay, are a very important part of the game itself. Many different types of vehicles exist and are shown within the games. Many are playable in the Halo games, each with a different set of abilities and strengths.
Vehicles have distinct tactical advantages. They can be used to bombard enemy forces or placements, or similarly, to destroy enemy forces and overwhelm infantry. On a different note, they can provide support essential in skirmishes as well as give quick transport while simultaneously allowing the fire of powerful weapons in most cases.
Even though vehicles are powerful, they also have some disadvantages, such as not being able to fit in as tight areas that infantry can, be clearly seen and destroyed by enemy artillery or explosive small-arms fire, and finally, can be hijacked.

In gameplay, only a small number of very unique vehicles are drivable and controllable, most operating in a similar fashion, allowing driving (navigation) and control of mounted weaponry (attack), though some allow one to do both simultaneously or only provide one of the two. Such weapons usually have unlimited ammunition available, whether they are human (ballistic-based) or Covenant (plasma-based).
When the player enters a vehicle by climbing into driving, weapons or passenger seats, the camera switches from a first-person to a third-person view. This improves peripheral vision and the bird's eye view makes it easier to drive around, with nearby terrain easily fitting into view. When the player has control of weaponry while been driven around in a vehicle, either hand-held weapons (usable while in passenger seats) or mounted weapons (usable while in turret seats), a stylized aiming reticule is displayed much like when in first-person view, locked to the center of the screen and replacing the typical arrow cursor.
The player is allowed to use vehicles from either of the two primary races, human or Covenant, often turning the Covenant's usually superior firepower against itself. Playable human vehicles are typically grounded, and unable to fly. Almost every playable Covenant vehicle has the capability to overcome gravity to some degree, and hover or even fly around. The majority of spacecraft and aircraft can be seen in cutscenes, though the player cannot control or affect them in any way.
UNSC vehicles are usually named after animals (such as the Warthog or Pelican), while Covenant vehicles are mostly named after supernatural beings (such as the Ghost or Phantom); with the exception of large land units being named after insects (such as the Scarab or Locust). Halo: CE is the only game where vehicles cannot be destroyed unless its part of the game (campaign) or glitches/mods.
UNSC and Covenant vehicles are made available in campaign levels (depending on which side the player character is on, UNSC/Covenant), when the player needs to infiltrate or cut through enemy-held territory.
Either kept unused, waiting for a driver or allowing the player's character (Master Chief, The Arbiter, The Elites, or the ODST's.) to switch with a friendly unit, the player may enter it without meeting any resistance and take control of it. Alternatively the player may enter unoccupied mounted turrets.
Since UNSC Vehicles are rarely available within campaign levels, it is a common practice to kill the driver of Covenant vehicles in order to hijack them. Although it is relatively easy to kill its driver from afar with careful sniping, the preferred approach is known as "boarding", and consists of:
This procedure may also be followed while in multiplayer gameplay, to take control of UNSC or Covenant vehicles controlled by members of opposing teams.
Vehicles that have been stopped by sheer firepower by destroying or disabling them cannot be taken control of. With vehicles such as the Ghost and Banshee, the boarding procedure is simpler. You can board it, throw the driver off, and in most cases automatically assume control of the vehicle, all in one quick action.
Certain vehicles can be driven in multiplayer levels. Vehicles can be very useful in Slayer and Skirmish gametypes. In Capture the Flag, once the player character has picked up the flag, the character cannot drive a vehicle or take control of its weaponry, though the character may ride in a vehicle driven by another character. Certain maps allow vehicles can be added in by players, before the start of the game.
In the Halo universe five different types of vehicles exist. The first four consisting of ground vehicles: Light, Medium, Heavy, and Giant. The last type consists of all Aerial vehicles. Each has different strengths, weaknesses and purposes, which help to ultimately decide which vehicle to use in which situation. Some vehicles are unusable in the Halo games, but can be available for use with the use of modified game content.
Light vehicles are usually used to travel for short distances along with fighting infantry units. They are agile and are usually equipped with small weaponry types. They usually carry up to four passengers. Some have light weaponry and armor which means they can be vulnerable to heavy weaponry, or leave the passengers and driver badly exposed to small arms fire.
Medium vehicles are a midway point between the recon prowess and agility of the light vehicles and the hard hitting power of heavy vehicles, without matching tanks in fire power. Medium vehicles will usually take more damage before destruction, and will provide better defense for the driver and passengers. They are usually larger than light vehicles, and will often carry heavy support weaponry.
Heavy vehicles are designed to smash foes to pieces and crush the enemy beneath their treads. They usually feature powerful weapons and heavy armor for destroying enemy vehicles and protecting themselves from retribution. They are often slow and are often restricted by terrain.
The heaviest of vehicles that are designed for functions as big as their sizes. They are however rarely suited for proper combat situations. They will carry defenses, such as defensive gun emplacements and turrets, but will usually be vulnerable in heavy combat circumstances.
Aerial vehicles are often designed for ground support purposes, but are equipped to defend themselves from other vehicles. Aerial vehicles usually only have two weapons - an anti-infantry based weapon, and a heavier type of weaponry, usually missile or rocket based. This is due to the vehicle often needing to be light to be air-worthy.
In Lost, many different modes of transportation are depicted, whether on or off the Island. Here is a quick list of those forms of transportation shown and the vehicles used.

Vehicles are incredibly beneficial to players as they are faster than mounts and are a great way of getting around. Currently there are more than 40 different player-controlled vehicle types known to exist in the game, but not every vehicle type is accessible to every player. While many of the vehicles can be crafted by engineers, others are available only through quests or as special rewards. Many vehicles offer a form of mounted protection that grants the player a bonus to ranged weapon avoidance while riding.
For all of their benefits, vehicle ownership can sometimes be a burden, especially if you own one of the game's rare vehicles. Vehicles can become damaged when combat is initiated on them. While both PCs and NPCs can cause vehicle damage, NPCs will usually only damage a vehicle if their attacks are grenade-based. In addition, creatures have also been known to cause damage to vehicles. Once a vehicle has become damaged (without being disabled), it can be repaired at any Parking Garage for a nominal fee. To repair a vehicle, select it and access the radial menu; a repair option will appear.
The amount of damage each vehicle can take is different for each type, but universally, when a vehicle reaches zero condition, it becomes disabled. A vehicle that has been disabled cannot be used again until it is repaired with a Vehicle Restoration Kit, or restored at a garage for specific vehicles. Restoration kits are often difficult to find and are usually quite expensive; they are mostly reserved for the repair of valuable or rare vehicles.
Some vehicles have the ability to hold multiple people. If a person is in the same group as the driver of a multi-person vehicle, they can enter the vehicle by selecting it, accessing the radial menu, and choosing the 'Enter/Exit Vehicle' command.
