Vega (also known as Alpha Lyrae and the Vegan system) is a star system in Federation space, located almost 8 parsecs (25 light years) from Earth, where it is visible as the brightest star in the constellation of Lyra. This star is in the Alpha Quadrant, near the Denobula Triaxa system. (ST references: Star Fleet Technical Manual, Star Trek: Star Charts)
The planet Vega IX was once home to the Vegan species, who ruled the system and a large area of local space until at least the 20th century. (ST reference: The Worlds of the Federation)
In 1970, the Beta 5 computer teleported an army of cloned soldiers created by Professor Eugene Eckhart and United States Army General Cory to an unpopulated class M planet in the Vega system. As the clones were all male, they were expected to die out in a single generation. (TOS - Star Trek: Assignment: Earth comic: "My Name Is Legion")
In 2126, Travis Mayweather was born on the ECS Horizon, when it was halfway between Vega and Draylax. (ENT episode: "Broken Bow")
In late 2374, the USS Defiant was assigned to escort the PQ-1 convoy through the Vega system. (DS9 episode: "The Sound of Her Voice"; DS9 - Millennium novel: The Fall of Terok Nor, ST reference: Star Trek Encyclopedia)

The star system of Vega is the original home of the Citadel and was the base of operations for the Omega Men. Vega is home to the Psions, an alien race who were experimented upon by the Maltusians. In time, they learned how to master the technology the Maltusians left behind when they immigrated to Oa. When the Psions tried to make contact with their creators, the Guardians of the Universe expressed remorse over their actions and disappointment that the Psions had not learned any understanding from the technology. They sent them to Vega in the hopes that could develop in peace, but the Psions grew to hate the Guardians. To prevent any further interference on their part, the Guardians added a law to the Book of Oa forbidding them and their agents, the Green Lantern Corps, to enter the Vega system. As a result, the system became a refuge for criminals and aggressive entities. Vega is also of critical importance to the activites of the Spider Guild and represents a major Guild nest.
Just prior to the War of Light, it was revealed that the realize reason that Vega was forbidden was due to a deal made with Agent Orange, the wielder of the orange light of avarice. The pact stipulated that Guardians would not enter Vega while Larfleeze would be allowed to wield the Orange light in peace, as long as it stayed buried on Okaara.[1] When Larfleeze declared the treaty null and void, the Guardians enacted the Fourth Law in the Book of Oa, which provided them jursidiction in the Vega star system. This brought them and the Green Lantern Corps into conflict with the Orange Lantern Corps. [2]

Vega Sepen was a female Corellian spacer, known as a tough, sharp-edged platinum-blonde who served as the first mate of Uldir Lochett's starship, the No Luck Required.
Born around 0 ABY, she was orphaned on Eriadu at the age of twelve and forced to fend for herself on that planet's harsh streets for the next three years. At fifteen she stowed away aboard a smuggling vessel and secured her place in the crew by defeating the Nikto first mate in a knife fight. Over the next few years, she had moved from one fringe crew to another, and by 25 ABY she was a junior tactician aboard Urias Xhaxin's pirate frigate, the Free Lance.
When the Free Lance was attacked by the Yuuzhan Vong, she decided that the invaders had to be stopped, reasoning that the situation offered a stark choice between slavery or death and fighting back. She joined the New Republic military, or attempted to, but she washed out quickly due to her inability to submit to military discipline, and she found herself a niche in the Search and Rescue Corps instead. By this time she had become an experienced pilot, engineer, sensor operator and fighter, but her ability was borne of a survivor's instinctive wariness and a tough, unsentimental approach to problem-solving. In the crew of the No Luck Required, her abilities and personality secured her the post as Uldir's second-in-command. But beneath her hard-bitten exterior, she seemed to have concealed stronger feelings for her "Boss-boy" than he realized.
As a result, she reacted with hostility to the growing closeness between Uldir and the Jedi Klin-Fa Gi, but she put aside her suspicions and worked with them to defeat the rogue Jedi Bey Gandan and a Yuuzhan Vong plot to poison the bacta supply on Thyferra.
