Final Fantasy

From Final Fantasy Wiki

Vector is a city in the game Final Fantasy VI. It is the Imperial capital of the Gestahlian Empire, and thus is very polluted due to all the machines in the city. The city is divided into two parts. The lower class lives in the southern portion of the city, and it is a haven for thieves and Returner sympathizers. The northern portion of the city contains Imperial loyalists, and is more heavily patrolled than the southern part. The Imperial Palace is in the northern part, and the Magitek Factory and Magitek Research Facility are in the southern part. It is advised not to stay at the inn in Vector, for it is owned by a thief who will steal 1,000 gil during the night (even though he says the party can stay for free). There is a small house where a Returner sympathizer will recover health for free.

The party first arrives at Vector in order to visit the Magitek Research Facility, where Espers are being held prisoner, including Maduin, Terra's father. A Returner sympathizer helps them sneak into the facility. However, the Empire soon finds out about this, and installs a Guardian at the entrance to Vector to make sure no one enters or leaves. Later, however, a band of Espers, lead by Yura, attack Vector after Terra calls out to them. Afterward, a coalition of Returners and Narshe Guards storm the city, only to find it in flames. Vector is destroyed in the Apocalypse and is replaced by Kefka's Tower in the World of Ruin. However, within the tower, there are sections which highly resemble parts of Vector in appearance and layout, including the prison at the Imperial Palace, suggesting the debris from Vector may have been assimilated into the tower's construction.
