The USS Ward was a Federation starship in Starfleet service in the 24th century.
The Ward was assigned to a sector of space near the Federation's border with the Cardassian Union. In the late 2360s, the Ward joined the USS Discovery in responding to the distress call of a Federation science station. In the ensuing battle, the Ward was destroyed by a Cardassian Galor-class vessel that had destroyed the space station. The battle was concluded by the Discovery, avenging the Ward with a victory over the Cardassian forces, forced to retreat. The encounter became known as the Battle of Po Ucan IV.
