The USS Sutherland (NCC-72015) was a Federation Nebula-class explorer starship in service to Starfleet in the late 24th century.

In 2368, the Sutherland was temporarily commanded by Lieutenant Commander Data while it was part of a blockade along the Romulan-Klingon border. (TNG episode: "Redemption, Part II"; ST roleplay module: Starfleet Operations Operations Manual)

During the Dominion War it was assigned to the Ninth Fleet at Bajor and commanded by Captain Shelby. Manuele Atoa also served aboard the Sutherland. (DS9 episode: "You Are Cordially Invited..."; DS9 - Worlds of Deep Space Nine novel: The Dominion: Olympus Descending)

The Sutherland docked at Deep Space 9 again several months later. Jadzia Dax wanted to invite several of its crew members to a party on the station. (DS9 episode: "Change of Heart")

Later that year, the Sutherland was one of sixteen Federation ships assigned to defend the Setlik system against Cardassian forces during the Dominion War. (SCE eBook: War Stories, Book One)

By 2377, the Sutherland had either been decomissioned or lost and replaced by a new ship bearing the name Sutherland. (TNG video game: Armada II)

In an alternate timeline where the Cardassians did not withdraw from Bajor, Data was given permanent command of the Sutherland in 2373. (A Gutted World)

The USS Sutherland (NCC-72015) was a Nebula-class Federation starship in service during the 24th century. It was built at the San Francisco Fleet Yards orbiting Earth and completed in 2367, on stardate 44820.5. Her propulsion systems were constructed by the Yoyodyne Division.

In 2368, while undergoing repairs at a drydock facility at Starbase 234, the Sutherland was assigned to be part of Captain Picard's attempt to interdict the supply lines between the Romulan Star Empire and the House of Duras during the Klingon Civil War. For the duration of that mission, the Sutherland was temporarily commanded by Lieutenant Commander Data, with Lieutenant Commander Christopher Hobson as his first officer. (TNG: "Redemption II")

In 2374 Captain Shelby commanded the Sutherland. (DS9: "You Are Cordially Invited")

This may or may not have been Elizabeth Shelby.

In 2383, the Sutherland, assigned to the Starfleet Eighth Fleet, participated in the Battle of Minark and was subsequently damaged, losing a nacelle in an exchange with so'jan battleships. (Star Trek: Pioneer (STP): "Torment and Woe")

Star Trek: Pendragon

After the blockade, Commander Hobson was reassigned, and the Sutherland was finally launched in March under the command of Captain Timothy Barranco.

Under Barranco's command, the Sutherland made eight first contacts, mapped the Algotha Cluster, and helped prevent the assassination of the Magna Roman Senate. (PDN: "Honor of the Sword")

The Sutherland returned to Spacedock in 2371 for refit, and Captain Barranco was reassigned to Starfleet Command.

Pendragon timeline

After Captain Barranco opposed Vice Admiral Leyton's coup on Earth in 2372, he and several other officers stole the Sutherland from Spacedock, and led a fleet of ships in running the blockade of Sector 001.

The Sutherland fought with the patriots during the Federation Civil War, and participated in several major engagements, including the Second Battle of Deep Space 9. She was severely damaged in 2373 and most of her crew were reassigned to the USS Dauntless.

The Sutherland was inactive for the rest of the war, undergoing a complete overhaul. She was relaunched in mid-2375.

Star Trek: Sutherland

Captain Elizabeth Shelby took command of the USS Sutherland in late 2371 with Commander Christopher Hobson serving as first officer. The characters and events that took place in Peter David's Star Trek: New Frontier series of novels are assumed to have not taken place within this continuity.

The Sutherland served with distinction in both the Bajor and Argossian sectors prior to and during the Dominion War, earning honors for captain and crew. Following the Dominion War, the Sutherland served in a variety of capacities within the Bajoran and other nearby sectors. (Star Trek: Sutherland)
