The USS Republic (NCC-1371) was a Constitution-class Federation starship in service in the 23rd century. By 2251, the Republic was serving as a Starfleet Academy training vessel and was commanded by Captain Rollin Bannock.

In the comic The Enterprise Murder Case!, the USS Republic was depicted as a Baton Rouge-class vessel.

In early 2251, James T. Kirk and Benjamin Finney were assigned to a training mission on the Republic. During this tour, Kirk reported a circuit to the atomic matter piles accidentally left open by Finney, an act which severely strained their friendship. (TOS episode: "Court Martial")

In late 2251, the Republic was assigned a two week patrol of the Klingon Neutral Zone, as well as being assigned a top-secret mission to deliver forcefield barriers and surveillance equipment to a planet containing the Klingon rebels, the M'tachtar. After delivering the equipment, the Republic was redirected to the Beta Bora system so they could represent the Federation at the signing of the peace treaty between the two warring factions on Heir'tzan. An assassination attempt was later foiled by Cadets James T. Kirk, Gary Mitchell, and Phelana Yudrin ensured that the peace initiative was successful. (TOS novel: My Brother's Keeper: Constitution)

In the 2260s, the Republic was under the command of Captain Richard Cornelius Patterson. Her non-classified assignments during this period where the transport of an investigating committee to Vardaine and sensor scans of the remains of the Gadani II supernova. She also recovered a message buoy which was launched from the USS Calypso, which detailed that vessel's destruction by parasitic creatures. In 2268 the Republic was attacked by a Vardaine duplicate of the USS Enterprise. Captain Patterson and nearly his entire crew were killed in the battle, and the Republic was left a derelict in the attack. The original Enterprise later engaged and destroyed the Vardaine duplicate. (TOS video game: 25th Anniversary; novel: Vulcan!)

In 2268, the Republic, under the command of Captain Manchu, along with the USS Excelsior was dispatched to Altair VII in response to an unknown entity had been attacking several targets in the Beta Quadrant. Captain Kirk and the crew of the USS Enterprise discovered that a vast machine planet intelligence from a parallel universe called Nagha was behind the attacks. (TOS short story: "The Sleeping God")

FASA Continuity

The Republic (registry number NCC-1373) was listed as "Missing" on reference stardate 2/0808.26 (26 August 2208, equivalent to 2267 in the standard timeline) while under the command of Captain Richard V. Masterson, seven months after its last known contact. Many years later (reference stardate 2/2304, six months after the Cetacean Probe crisis, equivalent to standard year 2286), the USS Excalibur (NCC-1788) under Captain Preye discovered the Republic on the fringes of Federation space in the Styx Rift region where it had disappeared. The Republic's crew appeared to be somewhat disoriented and did not appear to have aged since the ship's disappearance. According to the crew, the ship's Edoan science officer had become unstable or insane, wiped the ship's astrographic databases and destroyed hardcopy maps before committing suicide, leaving the Republic to slowly wander in the Rift until they could re-establish their bearings enough to return to the Federation. Before this data could be obtained from the Excalibur, events exposed that the Republic'''s crew was under the influence of neural parasites (of the type that once infested Deneva), encountered at the site of a 600-year-old wreck site the ship had investigated. As an Edoan, the science officer was immune to the effects of the parasites, and destroyed the navigational data to prevent the infected crew from returning to Federation space and unleashing the parasites on potentially dozens of worlds. (FASA RPG: "Lost and Presumed Dead" scenario, Star Trek III Sourcebook Update)

As an RPG scenario, no "official" outcome of the incident was given. The source was unclear as to whether the lack of aging of the Republic'''s crew was connected to the parasite's influence or was only due to relativistic effects of sublight travel.

The USS Republic (NCC-1371) was a Constitution-class starship in Starfleet service from the mid-23rd through the late 24th centuries.

Then-Lieutenant Garth of Izar was assigned as Republic's security chief in 2229. (Star Trek is...: "The Next Cage")

Two Treknology sources — Heavy Cruiser Evolution Plans and Ships of the Star Fleet — posit that Republic had been refit from an Archon-class vessel, which may explain why it was extant before the launch of Constitution in the 2240s.

The Republic participated in the Axanar Peace Mission in 2251 under the command of Captain Rollin Bannock. (TOS novel: My Brother's Keeper: Republic)

In 2254, James T. Kirk served with his friend Ben Finney aboard the Republic with the rank of ensign. On duty, Finney left a circuit open to the atomic matter piles by accident: an event Kirk reported in his log, causing Finney to not be promoted. (TOS: "Court Martial")

In 2267, during a wargames exercise, Republic (under command of Commodore Jonathan Keller) fired on USS Lexington with phasers at 1/10th power instead of 1/100th power. Keller was given the choice of court martial or retirement from Starfleet. He chose the latter. (Orion Press: "The Price of Peace")

During the Kelvan War in 2285, Republic was part of Task Force Four. It was one of the first ships rescued by Task Force Six. (Orion Press: In Harm's Way)

Republic resolved the threat of piracy by Orion raiders in the Volus Corridor and later deterred Klingon border incursions along the Neutral Zone in 2287. (Decipher ST:RPG Starships)

When Operation Retrieve was proposed in 2293, the Republic was patrolling the Klingon Neutral Zone. (Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country)

Later in the ship's life, the Republic was used as a Starfleet Academy cadet training vessel. As of 2374, the ship hadn't left the Sol system since the 2320s. (DS9: "Valiant")

The Republic was unable to assist the USS Enterprise-D during the Borg attack on Earth in 2367, or with the task force sent to recover survivors at Wolf 359, as she was undergoing a refit at Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards during this time. (Star Trek: The Prospect Chronicles: "The Burnt Child")

This would explain why the Republic was nowhere to be seen in "The Best of Both Worlds, Part II".

During the USS Cantabrian's battle with Samantha Delaney and her Dark Starship, the Republic was again at Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards for routine maintenance and in no state to assist defending Earth. (Star Trek: The Cantabrian Expeditions: "By All Means Necessary")

We also assume Elizabeth Singh, during one of her stints teaching at Starfleet Academy, served as an instructor aboard the ship, due to her saying the ship seemed to always be in drydock for one thing or another.

In 2376, the Republic participated in the Battle of Sol against the Vendoth. (Star Trek: Swiftfire: "United We Stand")
