The USS Prometheus (NCC-71201) was a Nebula-class explorer that served in the late 24th century.

In 2370, the Prometheus assisted Professor Gideon Seyetik in his attempt to re-ignite the dead star Epsilon 119. (DS9 episode: "Second Sight"; RPG reference: Starfleet Operations Manual)

In 2378, the Prometheus headed to Starbase 12 at the time where the USS Dauntless, USS Geronimo, USS Excalibur and the soon to be launched USS Sovereign were docked. (TNG video game: Bridge Commander)

The Prometheus was still active in 2378, 5 years after the USS Prometheus (NX-59650) was commissioned. Thus, for several years, Starfleet had two starships named USS Prometheus active. A possible reason for this is that Starfleet recommissioned the Nebula-class version during or after the Dominion War, similar to how the USS Melbourne was rushed into service during the Borg attack of 2376, even though there was already another USS Melbourne in service at the time.

The USS Prometheus (NCC-71201) was a Nebula-class starship in service in the 24th century. In 2370 it was under the command of Lieutenant Commander Piersall.

The Prometheus was scheduled to be either decommissioned or recommissioned under a new name in 2364 to allow the new USS Prometheus to enter service under that name without a great deal of fan fare. However with the re-emergence of the Romulans and first contact with the Borg Starfleet Command left the Prometheus in service while the Prometheus-class underwent a re-design. (Star Trek: Prometheus)

In 2370, the Prometheus was assigned to assist Professor Gideon Seyetik in his project to re-ignite the dead star Epsilon 119. (DS9: "Second Sight")

By 2374 the Prometheus was either recommissioned under a new name or decommissioned to allow the Prometheus-class prototype to enter service.
