The USS Mathias was a Federation Akira-class heavy cruiser starship in service to Starfleet in the late 24th century.

Ensign Samantha Warren transferred to the Mathias in 2377 after serving as a junior science officer aboard the USS Protector. She remained aboard the Mathias until 2381 when she accepted a promotion to lieutenant junior grade and an assignment as science officer aboard Pharos Station.

During her time aboard the Mathias, Warren became romantically involved with Hagran Uvhan, tactical officer. However, following Warren's assignment to Pharos they both agreed to end the relationship, knowing that a long-distance relationship over subspace would be damaging to them both.
