The USS Kierkegaard (NCC-1855) was a heavy cruiser employed by Starfleet in the late 23rd century through the early 24th century. Unlike other Constitution class starships, this ship was built from the ground up with the refit design. As such, the ship was one of the last Constitution class starships that was still in service in the early 24th century. It was reported missing in 2311.

After the refit design of the early 2270s were finalized, future Constitution-class starships used this design. The USS Kierkegaard was one of last starships built in this class, and this particular refit configuration had the warp nacelles mounted sideways and included additional hatches along both sides of the saucer.

In 2292, the ship was launched with Captain Soren as commanding officer. During the first several years of its tour of duty, the Kierkegaard was engaged in diplomatic functions, such as hosting conferences and transporting important delegates to peace accords. Two of its most important duties during this time include the transporting of Federation diplomats to the Khitomer Accords in 2293 and the hosting of the Kierkegaard Conference in 2297.

In 2300, the Kierkegaard was reassigned by Starfleet Command to patrol borders along the Federation, such as the borders with the Romulan Star Empire and the Klingon Empire. She was engaged in several territorial skirmishes along the Romulan Neutral Zone, but nothing serious.

The ship was last heard from Starfleet Command in 2311, where she reported high gravational flux and excessive tachyon radiation at its current position. However, starships sent to area cannot find of traces of debris. It was suggested among Starfleet flag officers that the Kierkegaard was lost during the Tomed Incident, but the reports have not yet been confirmed.

The ship was named after the famed 19th century philosopher Søren Kierkegaard.
