The USS Independence (NCC-70459) was a Federation starship from the 24th century in service under the Starfleet Third Fleet. Her commanding officer was Captain Barbara Hessman. (Star Trek: Pioneer (STP))

In 2378, the Independence assisted the USS Pioneer in the rescue of President Ba'l from Ka'al. ("The Removal, Part 1")

In 2381, the Independence retrieve the Velosian Ambassador from Velos and brought him to the Deep Space Five. Following the terrorist attack by Tyson Calok during the Oralian Peace Conference, Admiral Harold Anton ordered the ship to portal the Tealuian-Federation border to look for traces of Calok. ("Unresolved Matters", "Aftermath")

In 2382, the Independence participated in the Battle of Minark. ("Torment and Woe")
