The USS Crusader (NCC-43199) was a Federation Renaissance-class medium cruiser in service to Starfleet in the 24th century. (Trekmania; Star Trek: Daedalus)

In early 2374, the Crusader participated in the battle to retake Deep Space 9 from Dominion control. Once the main fleet had pushed through and were headed to the Bajoran system, the Crusader was ordered to remain with a task force of vessels which were assigned mop-up operations.

Unfortunately, the Crusader was taken unawares by a Jem'Hadar attack ship which proceeded to ram the starship in a suicide run. Most of the crew were killed in the attack, but several dozen crewmembers including war correspondents, Jefferson Montana and Adam Cunningham, managed to escape via escape pod.

Following his experiences aboard the Crusader, Montana resigned his post as a war correspondent for the Federation News Service and eventually moved to host the popular subspace broadcast program, Slipstream. ("Into the Reach"; "Slipstream")
