The USS Alexander (NCC-74209) was a Defiant-class Federation starship in service in the late 24th Century. The Alexander was one of two ships of this class that aided in the recapture of the USS Prometheus from Romulan hyjackers in 2374. (VOY: "Message in a Bottle", Star Trek: The Adventures of Argus: "Messages From Home")

Named for the famous greek king Alexander the Great. The name also shares a common theme with the other Defiant-class to appear in "Messages From Home" as the meaning of the name Alexander is "defending man".
