A tropical cyclone is a storm system that is characterized by a low pressure system that produces high winds and flooding rains.

While stranded on an uninhabited Class M planet, Jonathan Masters and Rachel Daley had to move inland from their shuttle's crash site on the coast due to a category 2 cyclone that was heading towards their location and intensifying. (Star Trek: Swiftfire: "Waiting for the Sun")
