Tritanium is a metal element, which in ore could be found on many planets, such as Argus X. (Star Trek reference: Encyclopedia; TOS episode: "Obsession")

Refined tritanium was used by many species for construction purposes. For example, the Federation and the Axanarri used tritanium for the hulls of their starships while the Cardassians used it in the construction of planetary facilities. (TNG episode: "Where Silence Has Lease"; VOY episode: "Repentance"; ENT episode: "Fight or Flight"; DS9 novel: Devil in the Sky)

The Klingons also use tritanium aboard their Vor'cha-class starships. (DS9 episode: "Dramatis Personae")

Tritanium and tritanium compounds are also used for certain projectile weapons, such as the TR-116 rifle which was in development by Starfleet in the late 24th century. (DS9 episode: "Field of Fire")

Tritanium has a distinctive smell. In 2284, Torias Dax smelled recently scrubbed tritanium when he came aboard the USS Excelsior. (DS9 short story: "Infinity")

In the 23rd century, the Federation obtained tritanium from a variety of sources across the Alpha and Beta Quadrants, including the mining facility on Angrena. (TOS - Uchu comic: "Art of War")

In 2365, the Cardassians found a probable tritanium deposit in Bajor's Musilla Province. (TN novel: Dawn of the Eagles)

The Xawe used tritanium in the hulls of their ships, such as the Gift of Flight. (DS9 novel: Proud Helios)
