The Tri-City Americans are a major-junior ice hockey of the Western Hockey League team based in Kennewick, Washington. Founded in 1966 as the Calgary Buffaloes, the team was renamed the following season Calgary Centennials, became the Billings Bighorns from 1977 to 1982, were the Nanaimo Islanders for the 1982-83 WHL Season, the New Westminster Bruins from 1983 to 1988, where they finally became the Americans. Their main rivals are the Spokane Chiefs.

In 2004, the team was bought by a group of shareholders, among which were Olaf Kölzig and Stu Barnes, two former Americans players. This move helped prevent the moving of the team to Canada.
