For other uses, see Tree (disambiguation).

A tree is a type of perennial woody plant, with secondary branches on a single main trunk, supported clear of the ground. Numerous varieties of trees are native to Earth and many other class M planets.

In late 2265, Joanna McCoy broke her leg after crashing into a tree during a skiing trip to Wyoming. A boy she was horsing around with, similarly broke his arm after crashing into the neighboring tree. (TOS - My Brother's Keeper novel: Enterprise)

Notes

This is exactly what it sounds like, it summons a tree. This tree has no spells and does nothing other than block movement and line of sight. This can be more useful than it sounds.

Many monsters will spend a lot of time attacking the tree when it could be moving into range for an attack on another character. This means that a good tactic against slow moving monsters is casting Tree, then moving away from the monster. This can give you an extra turn or two to build up some distance from the enemy.

A summoned tree can be the subject of Dolly Sacrifice, which allows the Sadida to heal itself. A summoned tree additionally does not count against the normal limit of summons, so a Sadida can, for example, cast Tree and then cast The Sacrificial Doll without any buffs or enhancements of + summons. This tree also does not suffer of any kind of damage over time spell and glyphs, since it doesn't have any turn to trigger those.

General

The Oakheart, a typical Tree

Trees are living plants. They are large, slow, tree-like creatures, similar to Tolkien's Ents. Trees are usually Monks or Rangers and, in combat, will hurl large rocks at their opponents, as well as creating a variety of nature-based spirits. Like all plants they have reduced armor against slashing damage and fire damage. Trees are considered fleshy creatures.

Note: Their appearance is similar to the Druids of the Maguuma Jungle.

Locations

They can be seen lumbering about in the wooded areas of Tyria, often in the company of other wild creatures (such as Ice Imps). Specifically, they can be located in Pre-Searing and Post-Searing Ascalon, the Maguuma Jungle, Kryta, and the Southern Shiverpeaks.

Sub-Types

For a list of all tree-monsters see Category:Trees.

Trees are the most common scenery in RuneScape. They are chopped down through the Woodcutting skill and can be turned into a fire through the Firemaking skill. Trees can also be cut down to be turned in to planks at the sawmill operator, north-east of Varrock, but this is for members only.

Skills

Woodcutting

Trees can be found almost everywhere in RuneScape, and they are the first training method of Woodcutting. A player only needs a hatchet to chop down a tree. For each log cut, the player gains 25 Woodcutting experience. This is the only type of tree, besides the Achey tree, that always gives only one log when cut. However, If a player is wearing the Seers Village 3 Headband, obtained from completing the Hard Seers Village Diary, 2 logs will be cut from every normal tree, but only giving 25 experience.

Firemaking

A player only needs a Tinderbox to turn a normal tree's logs into a fire. Doing so earns the player 40 Firemaking experience.

Construction

A tree can be built in the garden of a player-owned house. To do so requires 1 bagged tree, a watering can, and level 5 construction. When planted, the player receives 31 construction and farming experience.

Fletching

Normal trees can be cut into Arrow shafts at level 1 Fletching, Shortbows at level 5 and Longbows at level 10.
