  • If Michael and Walt were able to leave the Island via The Others' Boat, then why can't Jack and Juliet leave the Island aboard the Elizabeth sailboat, or even the trawler, after the destruction of the submarine?
  • Why are some people apparently able to come and go at will (Ben pre moving the island, Richard, Tom, Ethan)?
  • Why is it so difficult for some people (Desmond) to leave the island?
  • Why is it easy for some (Ben pre island moving, Richard, Tom, Ethan) to return to the island but so hard for some (Penny, Charles Widmore, Jack prior to getting help from Eloise) to get to or find the island?
  • How did Locke's father get to the island?
  • Why didn't the O6 and the rest of the Ajira passengers arrive at the same place/time?
  • If Ben had a means of coming and going from the island pre-moving, why couldn't he use that means to return to the island once he'd moved it?
  • Were all the Losties difficulties leaving the island (raft, sub, and freighter all blown up, Desmond sailing in circles, helicopter crashing, Sawyer ditching, Jin stuck on freighter, Juliet strung out by Ben) all coincidence, all merely plot devices to sustain viewer interest, or were they part of a purposeful plan on the part of the Island?

Runescape

Up to date as of February 07, 2010

From the RuneScape Wiki, the wiki for all things RuneScape

Transportation includes all of the varied means of getting around the RuneScape realm of Gielinor.

Contents

On foot

A player walking.
A player running.

Walking and running are the basic methods of travel. Players walk at a speed of 1 square per server cycle (0.6 second) and run at a speed of 2 squares per server cycle, both diagonally and orthogonally. The amount of weight carried determines how quickly a player's energy is drained while running. The player's Agility level determines how quickly energy is recovered while walking or standing. Pressing and holding down the 'Ctrl' key and clicking on a part of the game window or Minimap temporarily turns on run.

By shortcuts

Main article: Shortcuts

By taking shortcuts with agility, a player is able to reach a destination faster. The higher the Agility level, the more shortcuts are available.

A player using a shortcut.

Some common examples of agility shortcuts are:

  • Stile
  • Rope swing
  • Underwall tunnel
  • Log balance
  • Pipe squeeze
  • Rock climb
  • Stepping stones

See also shortcuts under the Agility article.

By teleportation

Magic items or spells provide the instant travel from any location to a specific location elsewhere.

Spells:

Items with unlimited charges:

Items with limited charges, rechargeable:

Items with limited charges, non-rechargeable:

NPCs:

By air

By trains or carts

By water

Sailing is a large transportation method used to get to difficult locations. It is not commonly used because of inconvenient port locations, but can be very useful to get to places such as Entrana.

Port Locations and Prices:

Sailing prices can be lowered if you are wearing the Ring of Charos(a), which is obtained during the Garden of Tranquillity quest.

By Fairy Rings

A player teleports using fairy ring system.

Fairy Rings is a system founded by fairies. It requires the completion of part of the A Fairy Tale Part II. Players can use this system by stepping onto a "eye" on the ground in Gielinor with either Dramen staff or Lunar staff, which will teleport players to Zanaris.

Some useful teleport locations are:

  • Kharidian Desert.
  • Fisher Realm.
  • TzHaar City.
  • Legend's Guild.
  • Miscellania.
  • South-west Karamja.
  • West of Grand Exchange.
  • Canifis.
  • Zanaris

By Wilderness portals

There are six portals in the wilderness, located in level 13, 19, 27, 35, 44 and 50. They can be activated by touching any one of the pillars. Then, all the NPCs (i.e. Revenants) and players inside the portals are teleported to any other random one.

A player uses a Wilderness teleport portal.

Other methods

Random destinations

Ignoring many of the random event NPCs, such as the sandwich lady will result in free transportation to random places. Since the destination is unknown many players avoid such methods of travel. Regardless, many adventurers (and even those that are simply bored) enjoy the element of the unknown.
