Tito was Hurley's grandfather. He worked 3 jobs in 52 years of his 70-year life. Hurley's lottery winnings were going to allow Tito to retire.

He collapsed and died of a heart attack during Hurley's press conference after winning the lottery. It is Tito's death that begins the series of unfortunate events that first led Hurley to believe he was afflicted by a curse associated with his use of the Numbers to win the lottery.

Tito was a Flakax Joiner who, with Yugi, was assigned by the Squibs (known as the Directors) to assassinate Han and Leia Organa Solo. He failed in his mission, and was convinced by Han and Leia that the Directors and the Fefze were plotting to kill him and the other Flakax. They sent him back to the Directors, where he cut down Krafte and Seneki before being stopped (and presumably killed).
