FFIII NES Thief

The Thief is a job class in Final Fantasy III. It is gained from the Fire Crystal in the original, while it is gained from the Wind Crystal in the DS version. During battle, thieves are able to steal items from the enemy or assist the party in escaping from combat. While on the field, placing a thief at the front of your party will allow you to open locked doors. They are unable to guard.

NES version

  • Special Ability - Steal

Depending on the thief's job level, the item you can steal from enemies differs. However, most enemies are only carrying weak items like Potions and Antidotes.

The Escape command lets the entire party run away with a 100% success rate. However, it won't work in battles where escape is impossible. More useful than steal, using Escape ensures you won't get the usual defense loss when escaping.

DS version

  • Special Ability - Steal

Just like the NES version, what you can steal is determined by the thief's job level. However, just like the NES version, the stolen items are usually weak.

  • Special Ability - Flee

Just like the NES version, except this time you get a defense boost for using the Flee command, making it very useful for getting out of tight situations.

The Thief also has the ability to open locked doors without using Magic Keys.
