White House

The White House... or what's left of it.
inside: Pennsylvania Avenue
map marker: White House
White House Plaza (Broken Steel)
quests: none

The White House in Washington, DC used to be the official residence of the President of the United States. The White House apparently sustained a direct hit when the bombs fell. After the Great War, all that is left in its place is a giant, highly radioactive crater.

Location

The way to the White House is to exit the Penn. Ave Northwest station in Pennsylvania Avenue, go up the stairs, and proceed straight until you reach the building to the north. You will see a manhole cover on the sidewalk at the southwest corner of the building leading to Utility, which connects to the White House.

Notes

  • This area is quite radioactive (6-7 rads/second), so taking Rad-X before going through the door out of the Utility tunnel is adviced this is the door to "Pennsylvania Avenue". There will be two Glowing Ones, so be ready. At the top of the stairs in the White House ruins is a Fat Man, three Mini Nukes, and two units of Rad Away.
  • The area is outdoors, so once you have the location and the loot, you can fast travel out to reduce your radiation exposure. (once you are in a non radiated area)
  • If you have a follower that doesn't have a default heavy weapon and you did not change their weapon (such as Charon or Clover), he/she may get to the Fat Man first and take it. It's a risk to leave it with your follower, as followers do not take into account the splash radius of the attack so they may stand near or shoot close to you, promptly killing you.
  • A copy of Pugilism Illustrated can be found in the utility tunnels. Turning to the right after entering the tunnels will reveal a small camp of sorts. The book is directly across from the entrance. Proceeding straight down the main tunnel will show that the original occupant of said camp had an unfortunate motorcycling accident.

Bugs

  • It is possible to escape the map boundaries by jumping on certain wrecked walls.

Appearances

White House appears only in Fallout 3.

Mutant Extinction (Earth-94831)

On Earth-94831, the White House lawn served as the setting for the final battle between the Avengers and the United States' Sentinel Army. Sadly, the Avengers were mostly killed. President Kelly and Henry Gyrich were pleased with their progress, however, until their army was destroyed and they were killed by Hyperion, looking to take over the planet.

Old Man Logan (Earth-90210)

On Earth-90210, the White House is re-purposed to suit The Red Skull's needs after he takes office when the villains take over the country. He erects some statues, and adopts the nazi flag to be used everywhere. He also installed a 'Trophy Room' where he keeps memorabilia left behind from the dead heroes.
