Publisher's Summary

It's 1929, and the TARDIS crew is holidaying in Antibes. While the Doctor practises his painting, Romana attempts to fend off the playful advances of young Tommy Creighton. All is peaceful and idyllic except for the portentous warning of astrologer Madame Arcana, and the fact that personal items are being stolen from the hotel's guests. What is the secret of the cave on the beach? And why do some of Romana's new acquaintances suddenly behave so strangely? As her newfound socialite existence suddenly takes a turn into danger, Romana finds that the whole planet Earth is faced with a deadly threat...

Cast

Notes

  • Unlike most other entries in the Companion Chronicles which feature additional cast, The Stealers from Saiph is a solo performance by Mary Tamm.
  • It is one of the first Big Finish audio dramas to feature a substantial appearance by the Fourth Doctor, although Tom Baker does not participate. As it is a dramatic reading (or, to be more precise, a reminiscence by Romana), Tamm technically cannot be said to be "portraying" the Fourth Doctor, but rather Romana pretending to be the Doctor.
  • Lisa Bowerman, best known for playing Bernice Summerfield, is the director. She also took the photograph of Mary Tamm included in the booklet.

Continuity

  • According to the booklet, the story takes place at some point after the events of The Armageddon Factor. The presence of Romana I means it also takes place prior to her regeneration in Destiny of the Daleks.
  • Romana states that she is still working on her dissertation about the Doctor (as mentioned previously in The Ribos Operation).
  • Unlike most other entries in The Companion Chronicles, which are presented as dramas, The Stealers from Saiph is presented as a reminiscence by Romana. Since the voice heard is that of her first incarnation, one must assume that at some point prior to the regeneration she, for some reason, wrote or recorded the account (possibly as part of the dissertation?)
