The Sesame Street Podcast is a weekly video segment launched on September 18, 2007, and produced by Sesame Workshop. Every Tuesday, a 5-minute video clip containing material from Sesame Street is broadcast over the Internet and made available to sesameworkshop.org and iTunes.

The podcast is the result of research that found that parents have been looking for such educational media to take with them on-the-go. Glenda Revelle, vice president for research and creative development in digital media at Sesame Workshop noted that Sesame research teams have "learned that parents are eager to have portable educational media content that they can use with their young children at any time and wherever they might be -- helping to fill time on a car ride or while waiting in line at the grocery store while building children's literacy skills at the same time."[1]

Just one week after its initial launch, the podcast became the number-one video downloaded on iTunes. Gary Knell acknowledged the fans and went on to say that the "podcast is a natural extension of the show's mission and an example of how Sesame Street is continually evolving to help children, no matter where they are, develop a love of learning." Glenda Revelle added, "The response that Sesame Workshop has seen so far confirms our prior research. Busy parents on the go are happy to have engaging, educational content available for their children wherever they may be and whenever they may have time for viewing."[2]

Contents

Episodes

Sesame Workshop has titled each podcast according to its featured Word of the Day segment as seen on Sesame Street, but the full podcast consists of other segments as well. Previously unaired content, such as longer takes shot for "What's the Word on the Street?" are shown, and Murray Monster often provides commentary for other inserts previously seen on Sesame Street. Many of the clips are edited or altered, often with the word of the day superimposed on-screen and/ or voice-overs by Murray, and often to just focus on the word of the day. After all of season 38's "Word on the Street" segments were featured, the podcast began focusing on healthy habits according to its featured Healthy Habits for Life. When season 39 began, the podcast went back to focusing on "What's the Word on the Street?". Starting with the "Stuck" episode, the podcast ends with an Abby Cadabby segment, with a title card reading "Abby Cadabby's Fairy Fun".
