As the USS Enterprise-D sits trapped in a Tholian web, Kyle Riker asks Deanna Troi for help resolving his differences with Will. Geordi La Forge thinks that Riker's plan to escape the Tholian web may succeed. Nethrax, the Tholian first officer, is relieved of duty by his commander for questioning the order to destroy yet another Federation target, this time, the Enterprise. The Enterprise breaks free of the web but their systems take a beating. Gowron arrives with a squadron of Klingon warships and drives the Tholians away, then demands to know why the Federation has started a war with the Tholians.
