The Captain was a feared space pirate who ruled the planet Zanak, assisted by his nurse and Mr Fibuli. He also had a pet robot parrot, Polyphase Avatron. He commanded the Vantarialis until he crashlanded on Zanak, where he was rebuilt as a cyborg. The Captain designed the transmat engines which allowed Zanak to materialise around other planets and plunder their mineral wealth, and he kept the super-compressed remains of those planets in a trophy room. The Captain's nurse was actually a projection of Zanak's former queen, Xanxia, who was controlling the Captain and using the energy from the planets in an attempt to grant herself immortality. After Calufrax was plundered, the Doctor investigated and, with the aid of the Mentiads, fought against the Captain, preventing him from attacking Earth next. Xanxia killed the Captain when he turned against her. (DW: The Pirate Planet)

The Captain in the Lighthouse

The Captain was the British equivalent of Doc in the UK co-production of Fraggle Rock. The Captain was a Scots-accented retired sailor, now active as a lighthouse keeper, who lived in on an island somewhere off the coast, and who received Uncle Traveling Matt's postcards through a passing mailboat. The Captain was a bit crustier than Doc, and tended to be sterner towards Sprocket, but the two still had a very close relationship.

When actor Fulton MacKay died in 1987, John Gordon Sinclair replaced him as the Captain's nephew, P.K..

The Captain, along with Sprocket, appeared in the 1983 Childrens Royal Variety Performance. He gave a brief talk to the audience, explaining that the stories about strange creatures living under the lighthouse were utter nonsense. This was followed by a segment featuring the Fraggles.
