A TOV on Dr. McCoy

The TELEMETRIC OBSERVATION VISOR or TOV was a technology extrapolated from the so-called TEACHER, a device created by the dying civilization of Sigma Draconis VI.

Designed for use by humanoids primarily, the transparent aluminum "helmet" was shaped like a traditional fishbowl with several dozen metallic rods embedded through much of the surface.

It fit over the head of the user, its telemetric nodes bypassing the normal connections the user had with their five senses and replacing them with data gleaned from a variety of robotic exo-probes. The net effect was, while wearing the TOV and the corresponding harness, that the user felt like they were "flying" in space without the cumbersome restrictions of a traditional EV suit. The Telemetric Observation VISOR, or TOV, was a device resembling a glass bowl with metal rods attached. This device used the technology of a VISOR to present the wearer with sensor information relayed as a personal visual representation.

On the USS Titan, the TOV is used to experience probe data. {TTN novel: Sword of Damocles)
