Swift
Also known as:
Race: Human
Home Planet: Earth
Home Era: Late 20th century
Appearances: DW: Doctor Who
Actor: Michael David Simms

Swift was the hospital administrator at Walker General Hospital in San Francisco at the dawn of the 21st century. He led a group of financial donors to an observation deck, where they watched Dr. Grace Holloway's unsuccessful operation on the Doctor. Later, when trying to assess what went wrong during the procedure, he began a cover-up of the entire affair, in order to protect the hospital's reputation. Toward that end, he burned the X-ray revealing the Doctor's binary vascular system and vainly tried to bring Holloway into his deception. Since neither the Doctor's body nor his X-rays existed, it would be possible, he reasoned, to proceed as if the Doctor had never even come to Walker General that evening. This plan incensed Holloway, however, and she responded by immediately resigning. (DW: Doctor Who

In the film, no indication is given, of any kind, that Swift is himself a doctor, or what his first name might be. However, the novelization indicates that he is "Dr. Roger Swift".

Origin
Origin
Jenny Sparks once encountered a large egg, guarded by Tibetan monks for generations, prophesied to hatch a winged woman at the end of the millennium and usher in a golden age of love and peace. The egg's incubation was not uneventful - it had to be rescued from Nazi agents by Jenny Sparks in 1943. The mini-series this was shown in was said to show Jenny Sparks' first meeting with the members of the Authority, indicating that the egg contains Swift. However the fetus is unnamed or given any real interaction with Sparks, and this origin seems to conflict with what was previously known about Swift's life and powers. The mini-series has several continuity errors, so whether or not Swift hatched from the egg is unclear.

History

When a comet passed by Earth, it activated a genetic quirk in some people that would manifest into superpowers either naturally or through special Seedlings called Activators. Swift was one such Seedling. Swift was brought into Stormwatch as a rookie, with her powers only partially activated. Weatherman Henry Bendix later reconfigured the Stormwatch teams, assigning her to Stormwatch Black, Stormwatch's black-ops team, alongside Jenny Sparks (with whom she had a brief romance) and Jack Hawksmoor. It was then that Christine Trelane offered to fully activate Swift's powers, bringing out their full potential, and she accepted.

After Stormwatch disbanded, Swift joined former teammates in The Authority. Formerly a pacifist, she has put aside those beliefs to fight for a better world regardless of the cost. She has fought all over the world, from Moscow to Mexico to Gamorra Island. Following the Authority's replacement by the G-7 Authority, Swift was replaced by Rush from Canada after being taken out of a fight by radioactive feces. Swift was brainwashed into becoming the obedient trophy wife of a television mogul who had been part of the conspiracy to replace her and her team. She was insulted at every opportunity, from having her cooking ignored to the implications she could not remember large words. Eventually she overheard the "off-button" code of the monster Three-Willied Seth and proceeded to free herself. She literally took the heads of the television mogul and his software billionaire co-conspirator. She also saved her friend Angela Spica, the Engineer, and killed the man who had been abusing Angela by drowning him.

World's End

After the remaining members of the Authority finding themselves in a post-Apocalyptic London, called 'UnLondon', Swift currently acts as a transmitter, as she is the only way people can communicate across vast areas, seeing as all communications are impossible now. For some unknown reason birds follow her everywhere now. Swift assumes its because of their social structures, breeding patterns and migratory instincts broke down and that they must feel she knows where she's going.

Powers and Abilities

Powers

Avian Enhanced Genetics: When her powers were only partially activated, Swift had a line of feathers that ran along the underside of her arms. This allowed for only limited flight. She can also retract her claws and talons and shed her wings, which eventually decompose into liquid, although she no longer does this since joining the Authority. After being fully activated by Christine Trelane, she has the:

  • Wings: ability to grow wings from her back
  • Superhuman Speed: Consequently, she is called the "fastest winged mammal on the planet." She has flown fast enough to catch super speedsters.
  • Enhanced Strength
  • Enhanced Durability
  • Enhanced Senses: She has some birdlike enhanced senses; apart from superior hearing and eyesight, she is able to feel or "read" the air to locate moving things and mentally listen to the bio-rhythms of the planet.
  • Superhuman Hearing
  • Superhuman Sight
  • Claws
  • Talons

    Abilities

Skilled Combatant

Skilled Cook: She has also demonstrated excellent cooking.

Skilled Singer: She has also demonstrated excellent singing skills.

Expert Navigator: Swift is the navigator for The Carrier, the mobile sentient spaceship that is headquarters for the Authority. She is also a natural pilot who has Stormwatch level combat training.

The Swift is a shuttle helicopter featured in Grand Theft Auto IV's second episode, The Ballad of Gay Tony.

Contents

Description

The official website of The Ballad of Gay Tony describes the Swift as "the preferred method of transport for Liberty City high-fliers", a "turbo-shaft powered" aircraft that "shuttles its precious cargo in speed and comfort"

The design of the helicopter is seemingly a cross between the Bell 222/230/Bell 430, which borrows the bulging sides, turbo intakes and the winglets from the fictional attack helicopter Airwolf (which also a modified Bell 222 for the 1984-1987 tv show of the same name sans the supersonic, spy and weapons features), and an AgustaWestland AW109. The majority of the design is borrowed from the latter.

Trivia

  • The Swift has a phrase or name on its tail which says "SANTO CAPRO" (which roughly translates as "Holy Capro"), along with an emblem resembling a lion/tiger. The same emblem can be seen on Yusuf Amir's tracksuit jacket that he wears. Combined with the fact that he owns the helicopter, and wears the jacket, Santo Capro might be a company that the Amir estate runs.

Locations

  • The Swift is available at the helipad near the West River during the beginning of the game to the end of the game. After the completion of the game, the Buzzard will start to spawn at the helipad.

Obtaining After Game's Completion

  • Swift with side doors closed - From the "missions" menu on Luis' phone, choose the mission Caught With Your Pants Down and meet Yusuf Amir at Star Junction. Get in his helicopter and fly to any GTA IV or TBoGT Safehouse and land the helicopter in the parking space. Immediately kill Amir and blow yourself up with a hand grenade. The mission will fail, spawning you at the hospital. The Swift will now be at that curent Safehouse for you to use.
  • Swift with side doors open - From the "missions" menu on Luis' phone, select the mission ...Blog This! and meet Gay Tony at the helipad. Immediately kill him and then the man in the back of the helicopter (killing the man first will fail the mission and Tony will fly away). The mission will fail and you will now have a Swift at your disposal. Save it at any parking space if you want to keep it.
