In mid 2374, she was assigned as the flight controller for the newly-commissioned USS Ottawa under the command of her old friend, Jenna Carson. (USS Baldwin: "The Return of Khan")
In September of 2377, she was promoted to become Ottawa's new executive officer (USS Baldwin: "Wild Roses")
Susan and Patrick Ingrum were classmates in high school, where Susan was a reporter and Patrick was a photographer. One of her stories was on a basketball tournament in Minneapolis, where Patrick was taking pictures of his sister, Anna. During the tournament, she introduced Patrick to her sister Katy Cassoday. Susan has known Jenna Carson and Sonya Fiehrer since they were children. The three grew up together in the same town. During their childhood, they had gone on a campout on Deneva when the weather modification network failed, causing it to rain. The three also camped out on Grecon IV in 2377, where a lightning strike disabled the runabout Verdigris. (USS Baldwin: "Like the Rain")
