The rank Supreme Commander is one of the highest Covenant Sangheili ranks. They command large fleets and armadas. Supreme Commander is likely lower in rank, compared to an Imperial Admiral.

For most of the Covenant's history, this rank was held by the Elite race until the Great Schism, when the Jiralhanae got most of the higher ranks.

Description

The Supreme Commander commands large Covenant fleets, such as the Fleet of Particular Justice, which was formerly led by Thel 'Vadam, before his failure caused his change of rank to Arbiter. Lesser fleets may be commanded by Fleet Masters, which is a lower rank than the Supreme Commander.

The particular Supreme Commander in the aforementioned text was a friend of, and yet superior to, Special Operations Commander Rtas 'Vadumee, and would later become the Arbiter.

During the Civil War of the Covenant, it is possible that Jiralhanae took these positions from the Sangheili, but none has ever been seen, as the majority of the other posts were taken over. However, some Elite Supreme Commanders may have escaped to fight the Brutes.[1]

Appearance

When commanding a Fleet, Supreme Commanders were wearing gold armor signifying the Zealot range of ranks, with a purple cloak that wraps around and over the armor piece of their shoulders, and a showy helmet, probably with ceremonial purpose.[2] The Supreme Commander's unusual helmet looks somewhat similar to the Halo 3 Sangheili Combat Harness when compared closely. However, when Thel 'Vadamee appears before the Covenant High Council, he sports golden Zealot armor without a purple cloak. This may signify that the purple cloak is only for those who command fleets, or that he resigned from his position.

Trivia

  • Thel 'Vadam is the only known Supreme Commander.
  • Supreme Commander may be a type of Zealot, as the term "Zealot" appears to be a blanket rank covering various positions, and Thel was in a Zealot armor suit when he was in council.[3]

A detailed image of the Supreme Commander.

Supreme Commander Bisi is the leader of the Dwarven Black Guard, the primary military and police force of the dwarves.

The Supreme Commander is responsible for managing all of the lower commanders, such as Commander Veldaban and Captain Lawgof. As the Black Guard's leader, he is also responsible for making many of the army's larger decisions, mainly concerning the management of funds.

Bisi is currently stationed in Keldagrim, hidden in the Black Guard headquarter's upper level. Guarded by several Black Guard Berserkers, he is often overlooked by visitors. Upon completion of The Giant Dwarf, he also begins to investigate The Red Axe, but he loses Commander Veldaban after a particularly tense disagreement over how to contend with the Red Axe. He subsequently appoints a successor.

From Wookieepedia, the Star Wars wiki.

Supreme Commander was a high rank borne by military and paramilitary officers in the service of most of the major Galactic powers of the Imperial and post-Imperial eras. Most Supreme Commanders were usually the senior-most Admiral in a navy.

As most major states and powers at this time are known to have used at least one version of this rank, full information is divided between several pages:

From Teletraan I: The Transformers Wiki

Supreme Commander is a rank used through-out all eras of Japanese fiction and some English fiction.

During Generation One, the Supreme Commander (総司令官 Sōshireikan) was the absolute leader of the Autobots and, at first, sole bearer of the Matrix of Leadership. Later, Autobots were appointed the rank of Supreme Commander without having the Matrix passed down to them.

The Supreme Commander rank can be considered the Autobot version of the Decepticon rank of Emperor of Destruction.

By the era of the Beast Wars, the rank of Supreme Commander was appointed to high-ranking Maximal generals, usually of Convoy status. The task of ruling over the Maximal race as a whole was the job of the Maximal Elders.
