From Final Fantasy Wiki

The Support Materia is one of five sets of Materia. Colored blue, they are linked with another Materia on the weapon or armor to enhance the effect of the attack.

Except for All and Elemental, these Materia are once-only finds (until Mastered) and for some, a lot of work must go into locating them. However when they are found, if used properly can make easy work of enemies, even Weapons.
