About Sugar

A view of sugar up-close

In general use, English-speakers understand sugar as referring to sucrose (also called "table sugar" or saccharose), a disaccharide in white crystalline solid form. It has become the most commonly-used sweetener for altering the flavor and properties (such as mouthfeel, preservation, and texture) of food and drinks. Sugar-producers commonly extract commercially-available table sugar either from sugar cane or from sugar beet.

The "simple" sugars, or monosaccharides, such as glucose, provide a store of energy which biological cells tap.

Any word on packaged foodstuffs' ingredient lists that ends with "-ose" may denote some sort of chemical sugar.

For information on other sugars, see monosaccharide and disaccharide.

In precise culinary terms, sugar consists of a type of food associated with one of the primary taste sensations, that of sweetness.

Starwars

Up to date as of February 04, 2010

From Wookieepedia, the Star Wars wiki.

"It is so much like taking a lick of sugar, then another, and finally pouring the entire bag of sugar in my mouth because it tastes so good, I just cannot stop. This is what Thurm Loogg is like to me! I know this, and so I turned my viewscreen off, and yet, it is on again! Why, oh why?"
Thurm Loogg

Sugar was a sweetener added to coffeine, caf [1] and many desserts.

The most common types were brown and white sugar.[2] Sugar could also be made into cubes. Yyegar sugar was one of the sweetest and most sought-after sugars in the galaxy. [3]

The Zelosians reacted to sugar in much the same way that Humans reacted to alcohol.
