A strawberry.

The Garden Strawberry (Fragaria ×ananassa and related cultivators) are the most common variety of strawberry cultivated worldwide. Like other species of Fragaria (strawberries), it belongs to the family Rosaceae. Technically, its fruit is known as an accessory fruit, in that the fleshy part is derived not from the plant's ovaries (achenes) but from the peg at the bottom of the bowl-shaped hypanthium that holds the ovaries.

The Garden Strawberry was first bred in Europe in the early 18th century, and represents the accidental cross of Fragaria virginiana from eastern North America, which was noted for its flavor, and Fragaria chiloensis from Chile, which was noted for its large size.

Strawberries are grown in a variety of ways, including the use of hydroponic facilities on those asteroid colonies with low gravity that grow them.[1]

Recipes Wiki, the recipe cookbook YOU can contribute to!

Strawberries have the most vitamin C of the berry family. Strawberries have been known since the time of the Greeks and Romans and cultivation of strawberries began in 1624. Commercial growing in America began about 1800 on the east coast of the United States. Strawberries moved west with the pioneers and now there are more than seventy varieties of strawberries, many of which are grown in California and Florida. This familiar fruit is usually available fresh year round with a peak from April to July.

Strawberries should be a bright shade of red and the caps on the berries should be green and fresh looking. Berries that are green or yellow are unripe and will taste sour.

After purchasing strawberries, check the fruit and toss out any moldy or deformed berries. Immediately eat the overripe berries within 24 hours. Return the other berries back to the original container or they should be arranged unwashed in a shallow pan lined with paper towels, and washed just prior to use. The berries may be topped with a paper towel to absorb any additional moisture. Plastic wrap the entire container. This will ensure the fruit retains its freshness, but generally berries should be eaten within one week.

  • Whole frozen strawberries destined for your baked goods should be used frozen. Gently fold into pies, cakes and muffins just prior to use.
  • Store whole frozen strawberries in their unopened or tightly resealed packages in your freezer. If strawberries are to be served alone, thaw until they are pliable and serve partially frozen. Add sugar to taste — it brings out both the flavor and the luscious juices.

From the RuneScape Wiki, the wiki for all things RuneScape

A Strawberry can be grown by players at level 31 Farming. Players gain 26 Farming experience for planting 3 strawberry seeds in an allotment and gain 29 Farming experience for harvesting them. Strawberries heal 1-6 Hitpoints when eaten depending on the player's stats.

Up to 5 strawberries may be put in a fruit basket. Three baskets full of strawberries is the payment for a farmer to watch over the dwellberry bush and orange tree in the Farming skill. They are also an ingredient for making Summer pies at level 95 Cooking. Putting strawberries in a compost bin will make normal compost.

A basket of strawberries is one of the most effective healing items a player could hold in an inventory space; it can heal up to 30 Hitpoints in 5 bites (6 Hitpoints per strawberry multiplied by 5 strawberries).
