From The Vault

A healing chem. When injected, the chem provides immediate healing of minor wounds.

Stimpak, or Stimulation Delivery Package, is a type of hand-held medication used for healing the body. This item consists of a syringe for containing and delivering the medication and a gauge for measuring the status of the stimpak's contents. When the medicine is injected, it provides immediate healing of the body's minor wounds. Superior versions are Super Stimpak and Ultra Stimpak.

Health Dispensers in the Operation: Anchorage add-on, manufactured by Lee Rapid Pharmaceuticals, have an identical delivery method, which hints that Stimpaks are also a product of the company.

Fallout, Fallout 2 and Fallout Tactics

effects: Immediate:
+5 to +20 Hit Points
addiction: None
weight: 0
value: $175

In Fallout, Fallout 2 and Fallout Tactics, stimpaks only restore Hit Points, crippled limbs have to be restored with use of the Doctor skill. They are plentiful and easy to come by in more civilized areas, although on the outskirts of post nuclear civilization (such as Klamath or Den in Fallout 2), they can be quite rare and fetch high prices.

In Fallout 2, Myron can make these if you give him the proper ingredients:

Fallout 3

effects: HP +90 at 100 Medicine skill
addiction: none
weight: 0
value: 25
base id: 15169

Stimpak regeneration is based on Medicine and can be calculated with 30 + (Medicine x .6) or 36 + (Medicine x .72) with the Fast Metabolism perk. This means that they have a base of +30 HP and up to +90 HP at 100 Medicine (or +108 HP with Fast Metabolism).

Unlike previous games, in Fallout 3 they can also be used on crippled limbs to heal them. When used on a limb it heals most of the damage on the limb but very little on the whole body's HP, and when used on the whole body, the whole body's HP is healed, but limbs are healed very little. Because of this, the use of stimpaks is rather tactical. The alternative ways of healing limb damage are: sleeping in a bed, Clinics, and the Rad Regeneration perk from the Wasteland Survival Guide quest, or by using the My First Infirmary.

Stimpaks are often found accompanying other hand-held medical equipment on compartment trays.

From Wookieepedia, the Star Wars wiki.

A Stimpak was a small utility container used by soldiers for the storage of Bacta canisters and other first aid supplies in the field. A Stimpak would stimulate the user, making the user move and think faster.
