Steel was published by DC Comics from 1994 until 1998. Although this was the second ongoing series to bear the title of Steel, this was the first title to feature the character of John Henry Irons. Irons was first introduced in the pages of Adventures of Superman #500 and was the spotlight title character in the Superman: Man of Steel comic series for over six months. Steel was also featured in his own full-length feature film, where he was played by basketball star Shaquille O'Neil.
