Starship (a.k.a. interstellar spacecraft) are spacecraft designed to travel between star systems or galaxies.
We do not know at which point in history Humans developed starships, although they seem to exist by the early 22nd century. (DW: Nightmare of Eden)
Starships have two basic ways of traversing interstellar space:
A starship is a space vessel capable of faster-than-light speeds (i.e., able to travel between stars), typically using warp drive, though several other methods of propulsion have been developed and observed.
The term normally refers to large, multi-purpose vessels, as opposed to vessels such as cargo ships, transports, warp shuttles, and runabouts, which are designed for more specific or limited functions.

A starship is a type of vehicle that is capable of supporting a crew traveling over interstellar distances. Starships are capable of faster-than-light speeds using warp drive or other propulsion methods. A starship's specification is largely determined by its class.
Vessels which are not interstellar capable (i.e. interplanetary) are generally referred to as space ships.
The term generally can be applied to any interstellar spacecraft, but is most frequently applied to the ships operated by the Federation Starfleet.

A starship, also known as a starcruiser, was a spaceship designed for interstellar travel, specifically between star systems.
Starships were commonly powered by ion engines, the most common form of sublight drives, and many - usually the larger vessels - were equipped with hyperdrive generators, used to reach Hyperspace as Lightspeed wouldn't be fast enough. Light-years would take years to travel across using sublight drives. Across the galaxy, many starships were armed, usually with laser cannons. Capital ships often featured turbolaser emplacements or missile launchers, and some featured hangar bays that could carry starfighters. Weapons helped defend against star pirates and military forces. Deflector shields countered the effects of laser weaponry, protecting the starship from attack. Once these shields fell the captain would surrender to their attackers.
A starship's bridge was its control room, most often seen at the stern of large vessels such as Star Destroyers and other capital ships. Smaller ships, like transports and fighters, had cockpits rather than actual bridges.
The bridge was an essential part of the craft. Most of the time, the controls to a starship's subsystems were located here. The bridge was therefore usually the first area of a starship to be targeted when under attack. Knocking out the bridge usually rendered the starship useless for the duration of the battle. For example, when the Imperial Star Dreadnaught Executor had its bridge obliterated by an out of control RZ-1 A-wing interceptor during the Battle of Endor, she plunged out of control into the second Death Star, and was destroyed.
Intergalactic starflight became possible with the invention of the dual-drive system, which included an anti-grav drive to exit a system's gravity well, allowing inter-system travel, and a hyperdrive system for faster-than-light travel.

A starship is any vehicle capable of interstellar movement, that is, travel between a system around one star to that of another. Starships are also the preferred travel between planets within a system, as they tend to have faster engines and roomier accommodations than smaller space-faring vehicles. In addition, starships have often been valued for their possession of valuable resources, such as energy, specialized fascilities, and weapons.

A starship is a spacecraft equipped with a jump drive. q.v. spaceship.
Typically, such a ship includes large percentages dedicated to fuel, for jump drive requires a huge investment in energy to accomplish the transition to jumpspace. This limits the available space for other uses, severely in the case of ships able to jump long distances, or rejump repeatedly (which is a lifesaver if you can afford the space). Some ships greatly enhance capacity without sacrificing safety by mounting external tanks to the ship known as droptanks.
