Contents

Background

He is the leader of a group of bandits which is plaguing the water caravans going from Rivet City to the Capital Wasteland.

Interactions with the player character

Once his name and location has been revealed, the Lone Wanderer can choose to either kill his whole band or replace him by challenging him to a duel with predefined weapons. Additionally, if you have a high enough Speech, you can persuade him to stop high jacking water caravans. However, if you use Speech to persuade him to stop jacking the caravans he will order his men to kill whoever or whatever they please. This usually involves Grandma Sparkle .

Tips For Defeating

  • The quickest way to deal with Split Jack and his gang is to simply gun them all down. Though Jack has higher health than normal, he and his gang should be fairly easy for the player to kill by the time they reach him. This will solve Lepelletier's gang issues, and you can report back to Bigsley for your reward.
  • If you choose to challenge Split Jack, you will be forced to fight him with three weapons of his choice: the Combat Knife, the Lead Pipe, or the Nail Board. All three, the Nail Board in particular, have very low condition. In tandem with their low damage and Jack's health, the weapon you choose has a good chance of breaking before you manage to kill him, which will force you to kill the entire gang. Bringing spares to repair it can help. The weapon may also be difficult to get rid of after the challenge is done, acting like a quest item.
  • Fighting Jack on his terms can be time-consuming, since his metal armor will soak up a fair portion of the damage done to him. Drugs like Psycho and Buff-out can assist in the process. In addition, his gang will attempt to crowd in for a better view, which may cause you to inadvertently strike one of them, turning the entire gang hostile. This can be avoided by keeping on the move or trapping Jack in the water.
  • Followers will intervene in the duel given the chance, and this will turn the rest of the gang hostile. This can be avoided by leaving them in the nearby shack or a fair distance from the wharf. The Mysterious Stranger will also count as an ally for the purposes of the duel, and will probably kill half of the gang for you if he appears.
  • Ultimately, fighting Jack for leadership can be considered a waste of time. His gang will not obey you if you win, though they will give you the option of setting up the protection racket Jack had devised. Unless the player is trying to finish the quest with negative karma, killing them all can be considered more efficient.

Appearances
