Following on from the events of "Infinite", Captain Christopher Mackenzie and the crew of the USS Infinite have crossed into they year 2268 of an alternate reality where the planet Vulcan has been destroyed and a mere 10,000 Vulcans survive, where the Federation is engaged in a devastating and prolonged war with the Romulan Star Empire. To make matters worse, war weary admirals at Starfleet Command believe that the Infinite's black hole propulsion drive could give them a tactical advantage over the Romulans and have impounded the Nova-class vessel. On the other hand, Selok's grandfather and a large group of Vulcan's see the Infinite as their salvation and an opportunity to travel to the primary timeline and see their homeworld once again.
While Doctor Michael Newton and his scientific team are forced to cooperate with the Starfleet Corps of Engineers teams involved with stripping out the propulsion drive, the Starfleet officers from the Infinite are forced to join the war effort against the Romulans, with Mackenzie ordered to serve as first officer aboard the warship USS Daedalus.
With the future looking uncertain for the Infinite crew, their only help may lie with Ambassador Spock, Captain James T. Kirk and the crew of the USS Enterprise.
