Dr Who

Up to date as of January 31, 2010

From TARDIS Index File, the free Doctor Who reference.

The spider was a type of arachnid commonly found on Earth. They were noted for spinning webs which they used to catch prey.

Originally, spiders were small, inoffensive creatures, none growing much larger than a rat. By the 26th century, though, radiation had caused mutations, allowing them to reach much larger sizes. (NA: Ship of Fools) An example of this were the Eight Legs, spiders with great mental powers, who evolved on Metebelis III from spiders that survived the crash landing of a Human ship. (DW: Planet of the Spiders)

A spider is a type of arachnid arthropod animal lifeform, with a basic form that has been noted throughout the galaxy. On Earth, many spider creatures are known to build intricate spiderwebs by instinct, with somewhat complex geometry, yet were not intelligent lifeforms. (TOS novel: Vulcan!)

This article is about the species. For the monster found in GW:EN, see Spider (monster).
A Giant Needle Spider, a typical Spider

Spiders are a species in the bestiary of Guild Wars.

Spiders in Guild Wars are the traditional Giant Spiders found in the fairytales and myths of many cultures. They resemble a real spider except that they are roughly the size of a human.

Characteristics

All the enemy Spiders in the game are rangers, monks, paragons, or assassins.

They have the nasty habit of hiding on trees or cave ceilings, so they do not show up on the compass. When prey steps close they drop down and attack from range, often with poison.

On one hand bringing skills/items that remove or shorten the poison condition is nice, but on the other hand spiders usually re-inflict the condition so quickly, that it doesn't make much sense to remove it. Instead, better be prepared to be constantly poisoned while fighting spiders and use healing to counter it.

On the weakness side, keep in mind that Spiders ...

A number of other arachnoid creatures in Guild Wars are not not considered belonging to the spider species according to game mechanics, although at a glance they may look like a spider:

GTA

Up to date as of February 09, 2010

From Grand Theft Wiki

A Spider in GTA London 1961.

The Spider is a convertible roadster in Grand Theft Auto: London 1961.

Design

The Spider may be based on a Series 1 Alfa Romeo Spider, although various cosmetic touch-ups were made to give the car an older look (such as hinges on the trunk lid), and the original Alfa Romeo Spider was actually launched in 1966, five years after GTA London 1961's setting. The exact origins of the Spider's name is not fully understood. "Spider" may refer to any vehicle that is a roadster, which the Spider is. The "Spider" name may also be a simple shortening of the Alfa Romeo Spider name.

Despite its sporty appearance, the car's performance is average, with slightly below average top speed and handling, and average acceleration and braking. However, the car has good grip, as well as a higher base export value of £800 in mint condition.

Trivia

  • The Spider assumes the car ID of GTA London 1969's Crapi (#58).[1]

Wikipedia has an article about:

Spiders are found all over RuneScape, but most notably in the Stronghold of Security, where they can be found at combat level 24 and in large numbers. It should also be noted that the level 24 spiders are aggressive and can hit up to 6 damage. Like rats, they usually do not appear on the minimap. It should be noted that they can drop charms. Low levels and some high levels fight Spiders because of their chance of dropping Earth Talismans. Earth Talismans are fairly expensive and can be used to make money. On the G.E. they cost around 3k.

Training

Spiders have recently been discovered to be good for training Magic. Players typically do this by wearing a full melee set to get their magic attack bonus as low as possible in order to splash nearly every spell. This allows them to autocast for an extended period of time with minimal input. Players should not leave their keyboard while doing this, as it is against the rules and could result in offenses applied to their account.

The downside to this training method is that players only get the base level experience for casting the spell and none for causing damage, seeing as no damage is inflicted. This makes the experience more expensive in terms of runes to experience points.

Trivia

  • In the Haunted Woods west of Port Phasmatys there is a small Spider that has no Combat Level and cannot directly attack a player. However, it will chase after a player as if it were attacking them. Examining the spider results in the game stating, "Nasty little creature."
  • It was discovered during the 2009 Hallowe'en event that spiders come from the Spider Realm, a different realm to RuneScape.
  • The un-attackable spiders that you can only examine via right clicking in the haunted woods are spawn points for lvl 72 Vampires.
