Spicy stews are normal stews with special spices from Evil Dave added to the stew. They are members' only and can temporarily increase or decrease a player's skill levels.
Spicy stews, also known as Evil Stew of DOOM, are available only to those who have completed the Freeing Evil Dave subquest in Recipe for Disaster.

When different coloured spice is added, the number of doses added will determine how much a skill will gain or lose, as noted in the table. This is the maximum number of level gain or loss. For example, if the number is 3, the gain/loss may be any number between 0 and 6. A player can also try putting 3 doses of each colour in to get an extremely variable stew.
| No. spices | Maximum skill boost or loss |
|---|---|
| 1 | +2 to -2 |
| 2 | +4 to -4 |
| 3 | +6 to -6 |
When the spicy stew is eaten, it will temporarily boost or lower skill levels. The colours will determine what skills will be affected by the stew as determined in the table.

Only one stew can be made at a time, but the player can have several normal stews in their inventory along with several spices and mix the next one after consuming the previously made spicy stew.
As with all player temporary skill boosts, the spicy stew will not boost higher than the player's natural skill level plus the boost amount. However, the negative boosts can keep taking the player's skill level down.
For example, if the player starts with a skill level of 50 and takes several spicy stews, the effects could be something like:
| Boost | Comments | Temporary Level |
|---|---|---|
| Start | Starting at level 50 (for this example) | 50 |
| +3 | = 50+3 | 53 |
| +4 | Will only boost to 50+4 not 50+3+4 | 54 |
| +2 | + boosts will not raise the temporary level | 54 |
| -3 | = 54-3 (going down) | 51 |
| -4 | = 51-4 (still going down) | 47 |
| -2 | = 47-2 (temporary skill can keep dropping) | 45 |
Due to this, it is wise to have several lesser stat-boosting items to neutralize the effect of negative stews. When using this technique, it may also be useful to use a stat-boosting summoning familiar (or a restorative one, such a Bloated leech with Blood drain scrolls). Also, logging out and then logging in does not restore stats to their original levels.
This boost gain limitation also applies to other player temporary boosts. However, some other boosts will stack with spicy stews, although not many. Crystal saws boost Construction level by three levels when building most constructed items and can be used with spicy stews for a maximum possible boost of +9. Tea, which can give an additional boost up to +3, will not stack, as food item boosts will not work with each other; however, tea makes a good construction-stat recovery.
Important note: A +5 boost (~1 in 20 3-dose stews) is much more common than a +6 boost,(~1 in 60 3-dose stews); however, it is still fairly rare. If you're aiming for a +6 boost, consider training the extra level as it may very well take longer to obtain the spices needed.
