The Sphinx is an non-player character found in Sophanem. She is involved in several quests involving cats.

As the Sphinx puts it, "I am an agent of neither good nor evil. I am unconcerned with the plight of mankind and their petty wars and beliefs." This is likely because the Sphinx is the guardian of feline kind.

The Devourer is not a friend of neither cats nor Sphinges.

Quests

The Sphinx is involved in two quests:

Trivia

  • The characteristics of the Sphinx are a blend of Egyptian and Greek mythology. In the legend of Oedipus the Sphinx would ask passers by riddles and if they answered incorrectly the Sphinx would strangle and consume them.
  • Before the Sphinx was graphically updated in the 8 July, 2009 update, it was one of the oldest remaining models in the game, and actually had a more masculine chathead.
  • In the Wise Old Man's house, he has a golden statue of a sphinx on his bookcase. This may mean he too has spoken to the sphinx and received an approval token off of her. When the player asks him about his life, he will mention that he visited Sophanem and purchased the statue as a souvenir. After he is asked if he has spoken to the Sphinx, he replies that the Sphinx is simply a tall tale and does not exist. Although the player will protest that it does. This can only happen after one has completed Icthlarin's Little Helper.
  • If the player speaks with Bob the Jagex Cat while wearing a Catspeak amulet, Bob will refer to the Sophanem 'sphinges' (a plural of 'sphinx'). This implies that there are or were more than one sphinx.

Transformers

From Teletraan I: The Transformers Wiki

Sphinx is an Autobot from the Transformers: Rise of the Chevy Autobots portion of the Movie continuity family.
"What's green and sings?"
"Elvis Parsley."
"I also would have accepted 'Fred Asparagus'."

Sphinx is Bumblebee's partner. He is a good friend and always places Bumblebee's welfare ahead of his own.

Sphinx transforms into a blue Chevrolet Aveo. One of the smallest Chevy Autobots, he's also among the most agile and is a scrapper in a fight.

Fiction

Bumblebee's Mission Log

It's one thing to show up and die... but to die in backstory? Ouch.

Sphinx and Bumblebee were both sent to Earth to meet up with Flash and Ridge and recover the All Spark. However, when they arrived at Sector 32-113 for the rendezvous, it was the Decepticons they found waiting. Sphinx was ambushed by the rogue Decepticon Mainframe, who drained the spark out of him, leaving a lifeless shell. His sacrifice allowed Bumblebee to escape.

Bumblebee later received a communication, seemingly from Sphinx, in which his former partner enigmatically warned him that "he's coming for you".

From Yu-Gi-Oh!

There are two groups of Sphinx monsters.

Group 1 - Beast-type Sphinx

"Andro Sphinx", "Sphinx Teleia" and "Theinen the Great Sphinx" are the Beast-type Sphinx monsters. They were released in an exclusive pack after the release of "Yu-Gi-Oh! The Movie". "Pyramid of Light" quickly summons the former two at a cost of 500 Life Points each, while Theinen is summoned only by paying 500 Life Points when "Andro Sphinx" and "Sphinx Teleia" are removed from the field at the same time. Theinen also has an effect which makes it near-indestructible, but this effect can only be used once. These monsters cannot be Special Summoned from the Graveyard, so you will need to stop them from getting destroyed by your opponent's card effect (most preferably by using the effect of "Stardust Dragon"). Or, if they are destroyed, return them to your hand using "Monster Reincarnation". The reliance that these monsters have on "Pyramid of Light" can also be a disadvantage, for "Nobleman of Extermination" can remove all three copies from play at once. Even worse are the effects of "Jinzo" or "Royal Decree", for, by negating Pyramid of Light, they force Andro Sphinx and Sphinx Teleia to be Tribute Summoned.

Group 2 - Rock-type Sphinx

These include "Hieracosphinx", "Criosphinx", "Guardian Sphinx" and "Exxod, Master of The Guard". They mainly enhance Decks which use the "Once per turn, you can flip this card into face-down Defense Position" effect. Though it has to be Tribute Summoned, Hieracosphinx prevents your face-down monsters from being attacked. Criosphinx forces your opponent to discard card(s) from his/her hand after the same number of monster(s) on his/her side of the field return to his/her hand. Therefore Criosphinx and Guardian Sphinx form a combination which can prevent your opponent from viably summoning anything. Exxod is not a Sphinx, but can only be Special Summoned by tributing a Sphinx (including any of the three Beast-type Sphinxes). These cards except Hieracosphinx are especially vulnerable to "Final Attack Orders". Also, Light of Intervention can kill the effects of "Guardian Sphinx" and "Exxod, Master of the Guard" because a player will be unable to Set or flip their monsters face-down, therefore monsters cannot be Flip Summoned.
